2003 BMW ALPINA Z8 ROADSTER V8

This 2003 BMW Alpina Roadster V8 is a rare contemporary sports car, presented in excellent condition and with a full BMW main dealer service history from new. Under the bonnet is the 4.8-litre ‘B10’ V8, which produces 375bhp and drives the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission with push-button shift. The odometer displays 77,293 km from new.

Based on BMW’s iconic Henrik Fisker-designed BMW Z8, only 555 Alpina Roadster V8s were built, with 444 destined for the US-market, six for Canada and the rest for the world’s remaining countries. Doing away with the original car’s 4.9-litre S62 V8, Alpina instead fitted its own 4.8-litre M62 unit (as used in the B10 V8 S), which was tuned to produce more low-end torque. The suspension was also softened, and the car’s interior was retrimmed in more luxurious leather, in line with the marque’s principle of producing comfortable yet rapid cruisers.

Marked as number 307 of those 555 produced, this example was first registered in July 2003, and is offered for sale by the trade in Germany. The vendor notes that the car is not currently road registered, but this process should be straightforward.

The sweeping, BMW 507-inspired bodywork is in excellent condition, with flush shut lines and no known prior damage to any of its panels. The Titanium Silver paintwork is also said to be in very good order, and has a bright and glossy appearance around the whole car. The seller states that the driver’s-side front wing has previously been repainted to correct a number of scratches; however, the work was evidently completed to a high standard. The electrically operated black cloth convertible hood presents well, with no rips, tears or scuffs to its surface, and it fits well over the frame below. This Roadster V8 rides on the correct set of 20-inch Alpina wheels, which are pristine.

Moving inside, the cabin is trimmed in supple black Nappa leather, and is very smart throughout. Both of the seats are free of any noticeable scuffs or other damage, and have only minor creases to their upholstery in line with the car’s use. Ahead, the retro-inspired three-spoke steering wheel is in good order, and the sculpted silver dashboard is punctuated by bespoke blue Alpina gauges. There are no faults with any of the switchgear, and there are no warning lights present on the dashboard.

This modern classic convertible’s most recent routine maintenance was a major service, which was carried out by a BMW main dealer at approximately 76,000 km at a cost of €5,000. No issues were highlighted at its car’s last TÜV roadworthiness inspection, and all four wheels are fitted with new Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.

This 2003 BMW Alpina Roadster V8 is an extremely rare limited-edition German sports car, which is presented in impressive overall condition and boasts a very good BMW main dealer service history from new. Offering greater torque and a more comfortable ride than its BMW-built Z8 sibling; this Roadster will make a refined and stylish long-distance cruiser, and would be a credit to any collection of Alpinas or iconic BMWs.
