This Volvo C70 Convertible is an elegant and sophisticated open-top touring car, presented in outstanding condition with remarkably low mileage. It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, producing 178bhp, paired with the five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 12,270 miles from new.
While manufactured in Sweden, the bulk of the C70 design and production development was carried out by Tom Walkinshaw Racing in the UK, which was already working closely with Volvo on its touring car championship campaign. Sketches from renowned designer Ian Callum led the evolution of its styling, and it arguably helped to usher in a new kind of Volvo, going beyond the familiar boxy saloon and estate cars.
This particular car was first registered in June 2002, and the clear HPI report shows just two former keepers on the log book. The last was the owner of RT Mechanics, a Volvo specialist based in Surrey, who clearly helped to keep this car in wonderful condition. The seller acquired the car three years ago, and has enjoyed some 3,000 miles on the road.
The bodywork is in excellent condition, with flush shut lines and impressive panel gaps all around the car. It is finished in the handsome Nautic Blue hue, which has a deep and even shine on all panels, and only the smallest imperfection here and there that can be spotted in the photo gallery. All of the body trims are in great shape, and its dark blue hood is undamaged and still fits snugly. The car rides on the original set of 17-inch BBS split-rim alloy wheels, which are in very good order with only very minor blemishes.
Inside, the beige Nappa leather presents superbly, with no noticeable wear to speak of, and certainly no damage or stains. The seller reports that it still retains an appealing smell of fresh leather. Like most Volvos of its era, the seats are wonderfully supportive, with plenty of adjustment. The beige leather extends to the door panels and steering wheel, and is complemented by dark burr wood veneer trims. Factory-fitted equipment includes dual-zone climate control, and the original Volvo stereo with CD and cassette player.
Its last scheduled maintenance was carried out in May 2019 by Volvo Cars Watford. This was a full service, including renewal of the engine oil and filter, as well as cleaning up the brake discs. Prior to this, it was seen in April 2018 at the same main dealer, when it was given a major service that also included replacement of the camshaft timing belt and spark plugs.
The most recent MOT test was on 14 May 2020 at 12,276 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever. The online MOT history shows that the car has never failed an annual test, and has never even had a single advisory - a testament to its remarkable condition. It was fitted with four new 225/45 R17 Bridgestone Potenza tyres six months ago, which are virtually as-new.
Accompanying the car is the original owner’s handbook, stamped guarantee and service record, all other user guides, as well as a raft of old receipts and MOT certificates. The spare wheel, jack, and tools are still stored under the boot floor.
This Volvo C70 Convertible is a refined and comfortable open-top car, ready for summer motoring. Its low mileage means it will certainly appeal to collectors, but this is also a stylish four-seater with a smooth five-cylinder engine, which is a great companion for weekend jaunts or longer road trips alike. It has been the subject of meticulous recent maintenance, and will undoubtedly impress its next owner.
