2002 MERCEDES-BENZ (R170) SLK 320 - 7,835 MILES

This Mercedes-Benz SLK 320 is a stunning example of the marque’s first-generation model, with remarkably low mileage and just one private owner from new, which has never previously been offered for sale. Under the sculpted bonnet lies a 3.2-litre V6 producing 215bhp and 229lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels via the rare six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer reads just 7,835 miles from new.

First registered on 24 January 2002, this UK-market SLK has been maintained in time-warp condition, having been driven sparingly, and fastidiously stored in a heated garage whenever not in use. It was kept by a single owner in a private collection for nearly 20 years, and is now offered for sale by the trade, marking the first time this car has ever been publicly available for purchase.

Finished in Linarite Blue metallic, the Mercedes demonstrates a deep and glossy shine throughout. The panels and paint finish are entirely original to the car, with the vendor reporting only a few minor stone chips to the front bumper. Riding on its original 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, these are in excellent condition with no kerbing marks. The electric folding hard top operates seamlessly.

The interior of the Mercedes presents in similarly impressive condition. The Anthracite leather seats show barely any signs of use, with the bolsters remaining firm and the seats free of rips or tears. The dashboard retains all of its switchgear with no obvious imperfections, while the original floor mats and Mercedes-Benz CD stereo system are also present. It is equipped with dual-zone climate control, heated seats, and cruise control. The vendor adds that there are no faults with any of the electrical accessories and that everything works as it should.

The vendor collected this car from Staffordshire, and drove it back to Norfolk over distance of around 180 miles, stating that it performed superbly. This SLK will be freshly serviced at the point of sale, with the vendor adding that due to its incredibly low mileage, the previous history is naturally relatively limited. Its first service was carried out in March 2004 at 2,756 miles, while the second maintenance visit took place in March 2009 at 6,048 miles. Despite the sparing use, it has been put through an MOT test annually without fail.

The most recent MOT test was on 13 March 2020 at 7,521 miles. This, like every annual inspection the baby Mercedes has faced, resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. The online history also provides a clear record to fully support its mileage.

The wheels are fitted with the original Michelin Pilot HX tyres on all four corners. Despite their age, the engineer who inspected the car reported that they are still in very good condition, with at least 6mm of tread remaining.

Accompanying the car is fantastic original literature, including the complete book pack, stamped maintenance record, and even the original purchase receipt from Monarch Mercedes-Benz date 31 January 2002 for £31,600. Its original number plates and tax discs have also been retained.

This superbly presented Mercedes-Benz SLK 320 is a collector-grade example of the R170 generation roadster. Combining smart styling with a great colour scheme, not to mention the incredible condition and exceptionally low mileage, this is quite possibly an unrepeatable opportunity to acquire an unmolested example of this sophisticated modern classic.
