2002 LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO

This Lamborghini Murcielago is a thrilling Italian supercar, which remains almost entirely unmodified, and has low mileage from new. Under the engine lid is a sensational 580hp 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V12, driving all four wheels via an open-gate six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 17,747 miles.

First registered in June 2002, there are six previous keepers on the V5C, and the current owner acquired the car in September 2016. In April 2007, this Murcielago was categorised as a Category D insurance loss by its insurer. While the vendor is not certain of the cause, they believe it may have been due to the car mounting a kerb, given that they have spent money on repairs to the underside during their ownership. To check and sign off on the vehicle, in November 2020 it was sent to Autolign Northampton, where it was fully inspected, and subsequently its Category D status was removed from the Alert Register. It now shows on the Vehicle Condition Inspected Register (VCIR).

Today, the bodywork and paint presents in fair order, with the vendor noting that the car is no ‘garage queen’, being driven weekly in all weathers. There is stone chipping around the trailing edges of the wheel arches, marks under the rear bumper, and a larger patch of broken paintwork on the offside skirt below the lower rear intake. The 18-inch Speedline split-rim alloys are generally in great shape, with only a minor kerb graze on the offside front wheel and a few chips on the nearside rear.

In the cabin, the black leather upholstery is in good order, with only modest wear on the seats commensurate with the low mileage. The leather trim across the dashboard and door panels is also in great shape for its age, while there is some minor bubbling in the leather headliner. The stereo has been swapped for an aftermarket head unit, but the original is provided with the car. There is some minor wear to the switchgear, including the driver’s side electric window button, and a nick in the air-conditioning valance flap. The rear-view mirror has been removed. There are no warning lights on the dashboard, and all electrics are currently working correctly.

The last scheduled maintenance was in March 2021 at around 17,500 miles, carried out by renowned Lamborghini specialist Mike Pullen at Carrera Sport. This comprised a standard service, as well as fitment of a new earth strap. The two prior services were also carried out at Carrera Sport. In 2018/19, the car was given an underside overhaul at noted Lamborghini, Ferrari and Bugatti specialist Simon Furlonger in Kent, which included refurbished suspension with a new offside rear strut, new bushes throughout, a full clean and fresh powder coating application, and a complete set up of the geometry, at a total cost of £27,000. Freer-flowing Fabspeed catalytic converters were also installed, at a cost of some £2,000 (which is the only mechanical modification on the car). The car has also received new front brake discs at a cost of £2,000, new brake pads, and new tyres. The only known foible on the car is that the rear spoiler sometimes fails to raise above 70mph.

The most recent MOT test was on 25 June 2020 at 16,168 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with zero advisories. Bidders should note that the MOT test on 12 May 2008 was incorrectly recorded as being at 98,084 miles, rather than ~9,800 miles. The vehicle therefore shows as having a mileage discrepancy, though this is purely an administrative error that was never rectified. The four Michelin Pilot Sport tyres are date-coded to 2015 and 2016, but were fitted as fresh rubber in 2017, and still have ample tread depth.

Accompanying the car are the original tools, manuals, service history, and a Murcielago brochure. There is also a Thatcham Category 5 alarm system fitted.

This Lamborghini Murcielago is a striking modern supercar, with huge road presence, and the ever-desirable combination of a large capacity naturally aspirated V12 and an engaging manual transmission. While it has previously suffered from some minor damage, the recent full examination and fresh Condition Inspected status should put bidders’ minds at rest that repairs have been carried out to the correct standards. With all the noise and drama that you would expect from a flagship Lamborghini, this original and early model Murcielago is ready to be thoroughly enjoyed by its next owner.

Its Category D status has since been removed from VCAR, and it now shows on the Vehicle Condition Inspected Register (VCIR).
