2002 FERRARI 360 MODENA - MANUAL

* AUCTION ENDED EARLY *

---------

Within 24 hours of this auction's scheduled end time, Collecting Cars was made aware of claims of undeclared damage to this car that occurred in 2006. While there was no immediate proof of such damage, Collecting Cars takes such claims seriously, and therefore made enquiries to ascertain the facts.

It is clear that neither the current owner nor the previous owner were aware of these claims, and had no reason to believe that there was any prior damage. Furthermore, both HPI and Experian history checks for this car are completely clear.

Other auction companies may have stopped at this point. However, the Collecting Cars team undertook further research that meant we were able to speak to an individual who handled this car in 2007, and we are now satisfied that the claims made are correct.

We always strive to deliver the most satisfactory result for both buyer and seller, so our team endeavoured to contact all bidders above the initial reserve price to explain the facts. Having been made aware of the claims, the lead bidder chose to purchase the car for a total price of £46,905, which was equivalent to their high bid.

This Ferrari 360 Modena is a thrilling mid-engined Italian supercar, finished in an iconic colour scheme, and with low mileage. It is powered by a 3.6-litre naturally aspirated V8 producing up to 395bhp, driving the rear wheels via a six-speed open-gate manual transmission. The odometer shows 24,005 miles.

First registered in December 2002, this Ferrari was acquired by the current owner three years ago. It left the factory in the vibrant Rosso Corsa hue, with an interior trimmed in cream leather. The original seats have been swapped for aftermarket sport seats with embroidered ‘Cavallino’ emblems, Scuderia Ferrari shields have been added to the wings, and the car is equipped with a Tubi style stainless steel exhaust system. Otherwise, it remains original and unmodified.

Its bodywork and paint is described as being in good condition, with no signs of any damage, and only some stone chips on the bumpers that you would expect from road use. The photos show the red paint has a bright and glossy finish, while the window surrounds and body trims present well. The car rides on the original five-spoke alloy wheels, which appear to be in unmarked pristine condition.

In the cabin, the cream leather upholstery is in good order, showing only minimal wear and slight discolouration in a few places. The trim on the aftermarket seats has been very well matched to the rest of the interior. There are a few small scratches and nicks on the metal and plastic trim in places, including along the transmission tunnel, and around some of the switches, but overall the interior is in excellent condition. The vendor reports that there are no electrical faults or warning lights on the dashboard.

The last scheduled maintenance was carried out in September 2020 at 23,825 miles by Ferrari specialist JMH Automotive in Cheshire. This was a major service, which included renewal of the engine oil and filter, the cam belts, tensioner bearings, and water pump. The spark plugs, water pump belt, power steering belt, and air-conditioning belt were also replaced, along with the cam cover and rear cover gaskets, and the clutch release bearing.

Prior to this, it was serviced by Ferrari specialist Italia Autosport in September 2018 at 22,764 miles. This consisted of a full service, a general check-over, and adjustment of the gear selector mechanism. New front and rear wishbone ball joints were fitted, as well as new lower shock absorber bushes, and track rod end dust covers, followed by suspension geometry adjustment.

The last MOT test was on 29 September 2020 at 23,825 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with only a few advisories. Some corrosion was noted on the front brake pipes and ferrules, and slight play was spotted in the front suspension arm ball joints and nearside rear toe arm. The wheels are fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tyres on all four corners.

Accompanying the car is the complete original book pack in its leather wallet, including the owner’s manual, user guides, and the stamped service record. A Certificate of Conformity is also present.

This Ferrari 360 Modena is a wonderful modern supercar, delivering an immersive experience for its driver with a howling V8 engine and a slick manual gearbox. It presents well, and is backed up with a significant spend on maintenance and improvements over the last few years in particular. If you have been seeking a great value contemporary Ferrari, then this 360 Modena represents an opportunity to acquire an acclaimed model that is offered with a very sensible reserve.
