2002 DAX TOJEIRO COBRA REPLICA

This Dax Tojeiro Cobra is an attention-grabbing replica of a 1960s MkIII AC Cobra, marrying classic styling with relatively modern build quality. Under the bonnet is a 5.7-litre, naturally aspirated Chevrolet V8 producing approximately 450bhp. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox, while the odometer reads 12,750 miles from new.

This UK right-hand drive example has been in the hands of one owner from new, and was first registered on 18 September 2002. It remains in original condition throughout, having been comprehensively maintained by the vendor to date. The appropriate registration ‘AC52 COB’ is included in the sale.

Designed by sportscar specialist DAX Cars, the company was the first British brand to make a faithful replica of the original AC 427 Cobra, and in the 1970s had the original designer of the AC Ace – John Tojeiro – on its team to ensure as much accuracy as possible. Having been in business for over 50 years, the brand is adept at combining a wide range of components from respected OEMs into the lightweight chassis and bodywork.

Finished in Thistle Purple, the finish on this example remains in compelling order, with only a few stone chips visible to the front end. With even panelling and smooth shut lines, the construction has evidently been of a high quality. Chrome accents including the rear wheel arch stone chip guards, bumper over-riders, and side-exist exhausts remain in fantastic condition, with the roll-over protection bars similarly unmarked. A deep bonnet air scoop takes pride of place on the bonnet. This Dax rides on 18-inch Halibrand-replica alloys, which remain in very good order with just slight kerb damage on the nearside rear wheel.

The sparse interior of the Cobra presents well, with faint signs of wear visible to the passenger footwell carpet, as well as the outer bolsters of both seats. Otherwise, the cabin remains in very good condition – with the Smiths gauges fully functional and retaining clear displays. The vendor states that everything remains in working order, with no warning lights illuminated on the dashboard.

The most recent service was carried out at 12,700 miles. This saw the engine oil and filter replaced, with a new battery and four new tyres fitted. The vendor has carried out servicing on this example during their ownership, keeping it in fine running order.

The most recent MOT test was on 30 May 2020 at 12,559 miles. This was a first-time pass with zero advisories, with this example having never failed an MOT to date. Wearing Maxxis Victra Sport 5 tyres all round, these are in superb condition with ample tread. Included in the sale will be the original mohair tonneau cover and wet weather equipment, which is not currently fitted.
