This 2002 BMW Z3 3.0i Sport Edition is an excellent, unmolested example of a smart roadster that is increasingly thought of as a modern classic. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.0-litre straight-six engine, with rear-wheel drive via a five-speed ZF manual gearbox. This Z3 has covered just 42,671 miles from new.
First introduced in 2000, the 3.0i Sport became the new top-of-the-range model boasting 228bhp, Torsen limited-slip differential, revised suspension and updated electronic stability control as standard.
This example is a post-facelift widebody car, and is a genuine Sport model that includes the S704 option lowered suspension. Finished in the striking hue of Estoril Blue with black leather, this Z3 has genuine low mileage, and is presented in unmodified and original condition.
First registered on 14 August 2002, there are four previous registered keepers on the log book. The car has been with the current owner for approximately two years, and in this time has been used sparingly, with around 1,000 miles covered on the road.
The seller reports the paintwork to be in good condition, with a smooth and even finish around the body, and reports only a few imperfections including a small scuff to the rear bumper, and another on a rear wheel arch. The door jambs, as well as the bonnet and boot shuts, are in great shape, and the engine bay is clean and tidy. The 17-inch Style 78 BBS wheels are in generally good order, though they do have a few kerbing marks around the rims.
The heated sport seats are in excellent condition, with no rips or other damage to the black leather upholstery, and only wear commensurate with the age and mileage. The interior is complete with original BMW Business radio, and the wood veneer trim is unspoilt. The boot area is in great condition, complete with six-disc CD changer, and the dark blue fabric soft top presents well and fits snugly.
The most recent MOT test was on 17 April 2020 at 42,661 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with one advisory regarding some corrosion to the underside, though not affecting structural rigidity. The seller reports that the tyres are all in good condition with approximately 6mm of tread all round.
Its last scheduled maintenance was carried out by Halliwell Jones BMW in Wilmslow. This consisted of a standard service, with the two previous visits also at the same main dealer.
This BMW Z3 3.0i Sport is a smart example of the marque’s popular millennium-era roadster. Its powerful straight-six engine and manual gearbox give the car genuine sporting appeal, and it is finished in a great factory colour. Its condition and low mileage make this a collectable modern classic, though it also deserves to be enjoyed on the road as much as possible.
