2002 BENTLEY ARNAGE R

This 2002 Bentley Arnage R is a supremely luxurious British saloon, presented in good overall condition and with low mileage. Under the bonnet sits a 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 405hp, coupled with a five-speed ZF automatic transmission. The odometer currently indicates 41,481 miles from new.

First registered in November 2002, this Arnage has four previous keepers on the log book, and has been cherished by its most recent private owner for three years. It is now offered for sale by the trade. Compared to the earliest Arnage models to roll off the production line, this 2002 car has a stiffer body shell, as well as larger brakes, an increase in rear seat leg room, and an upgraded steering rack for easier low-speed manoeuvres.

The bodywork of this Arnage R is in good order, with no evidence of any replacement panels or serious accident damage. Its Black Sapphire paintwork is described as being in fair condition, and is honestly presented in the extensive photo gallery below. As can be seen, there are numerous minor imperfections around the car, including some light scuffs, chips, scratches, and peeling lacquer. Some condensation is also noted within the mirror glass, which may require replacement. There are slightly deeper scratches located on the lower offside rear wheel arch and to the rear of the side skirt, as well as a small dent in the offside rear door. The car rides on 18-inch six-spoke alloy wheels, which remain in very good order.

While the paintwork would certainly benefit from attention, the interior of this Arnage R presents very well. The Cotswold hide is in good order, with just some creases on the bolsters and small patches that would benefit from a thorough clean. The driver’s floor mat is quite heavily worn, though could of course be replaced, but the carpet underneath is sound. The main contact points appear with only modest wear commensurate with the low mileage, and there are only minor marks elsewhere around the cabin. The vendor has reported no issues with the switchgear. Its service light is illuminated based on time – as it has only covered 50 miles since its last maintenance – and the car can be serviced before handover at extra cost.

The last service was undertaken in November 2019 at 41,432 miles, where Furlonger Specialist Cars changed the engine oil and filter, as well as the pollen filter body, plenum and element. During this visit, the car also had a steering rack rebuild. Prior to this, in April 2016 at 39,445 miles and May 2015 at 35,051 miles, Jack Barclay Bentley in London carried out routine oil services.

The most recent MOT test was on 22 November 2019 at 41,432 miles, which resulted in a pass with advisories to monitor worn rear tyres, one of which has a small cut on the sidewall. The wheels are wrapped with Pirelli tyres all round, though the vendor reports that these will need to be replaced soon.

The car is accompanied by its original leather book pack, containing the stamped maintenance record, a secondary maintenance book, an Arnage R owner’s manual, and both original keys as shown. Also present is a file containing dozens of service invoices, MOT certificates and other receipts.

This Bentley Arnage R is a sound example of a modern classic luxury saloon. The vendor reports that the car runs and drives beautifully, which means it can be enjoyed immediately on the road. It would benefit from some attention to its paintwork and a thorough detailing treatment to bring it up to a very high standard.
