This Audi TT is a very well-maintained example of the Bauhaus-inspired modern design classic, presented in a rare factory colour, and with only one previous private owner. Its engine is the 1.8-litre ‘225’ turbocharged inline-four, producing 221bhp and 206lb-ft of torque. Power reaches the tarmac via Audi’s hallmark Quattro four-wheel drive system and a six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer reads 114,966 miles.

As was not unusual at the time, this right-hand drive TT was ordered new via a European dealer to take advantage of lower prices, and was initially delivered to Audi Autobedruf De Rooij in the Netherlands on 26 March 2002. The car was subsequently imported into the UK and was re-registered on 19 August 2002. One of the results of being able to order through dealers on the continent was access to a wider colour palette, and this particular TT was specified in Imola Yellow – a colour which is therefore exceptionally rare among 1.8T coupes in the UK.

The Mk1 Audi TT was born out of a concept car shown at the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show, with the earliest production models released in 1998. This car is a 2001-onwards model with the rear boot spoiler fitted from the factory to aid high-speed stability. Having been imported to the UK by a dealer, it was almost immediately registered to its first private owner on 20 August 2002. This individual kept the car from this point until early 2020, though the DVLA records a keeper change within that period, believed to have been an administrative error with a change of address. The seller purchased the car in early 2020 from the same person named on the ownership documents from August 2002.

Resplendent in its original hue of Imola Yellow, this TT features minimal imperfections, suggesting a life of being regularly garaged and driven considerately. The vendor notes a minor stone chip at the bottom of the driver’s door, and some bubbling on the roof rails – a common foible of the Mk1 TT. There is also some slight paint flaking visible on the door handles and the wing mirrors.

It is understood that the car has previously had some remedial paintwork over its lifetime, and it presents superbly today. This TT also retains its handsome six-spoke alloy wheels, with both the centre caps and wheel faces free of imperfections thanks to refurbishment in March 2020.

Moving inside, the Audi features black leather upholstery throughout. This is in good condition, with modest outer bolster wear present on both the front driver and passenger seats, and some marks on the rear seat backs. The dashboard trim displays minor markings on the HVAC controls, but is otherwise very smart and all operational. This example also benefits from factory-fit heated seats, as well as the Panasonic CD changer and Audi Chorus cassette player. There are minor scratches apparent on the steering column near the ignition, as well as the dashboard glovebox trim, commensurate with the age and mileage.

This retro-styled coupe was last serviced in September 2019 at 110,943 miles by the Foster and Heanes Ltd group. This was an engine oil service, which also included air, pollen, fuel and oil filter replacements, as well as new wiper blades.

In April this year, new brake discs and pads were fitted all round, while in July, a new battery was fitted. The vendor also had the failing instrument cluster refurbished by Cluster Repairs UK to remedy dead pixels and replace the needle motors.

Prior to this, the TT was serviced in October 2017 at 97,945 miles by the same garage. The timing belt was changed at this time, along with coolant, engine oil and filter, spark plugs, air and fuel filters. A detailed service and maintenance summary follows this advert.

The most recent MOT test was on 18 September 2020 at 114,969 miles. This resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. Wearing matching Michelin CrossClimate tyres all round, these are in good condition with approximately 5mm of tread remaining.

This landmark TT is now available for sale with its original handbooks, fully-documented service and ownership history, original sales brochure, a copy of Autocar magazine with the original Mk1 TT road test, and two keys – including an unused spare. In addition, the TT will be provided with its original unused first aid kit, spare wheel and toolkit.

This first-generation Audi TT is a very well-maintained and highly original example of the potent 1.8T 225 model, in single ownership between 2002 and early 2020, and boasting a very rare factory colour. It would make for a dependable and stylish daily driver, and would make a great addition to any collection of modern classics.
