2002 ALFA ROMEO GTV CUP

KEY FACTS

• A rare, limited-production Italian sports coupe, presented in excellent overall condition and benefiting from a prior cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment.
• Under the bonnet is the famed ‘Busso’ 3.0-litre V6, which sends 218bhp and 199lb ft lb of torque to the front wheels via a six--speed manual transmission.
• Created to commemorate the marque’s single-model GTV Cup race series, only 419 roadgoing versions were built, with this example being number 72 of the 155 right-hand drive examples produced for the UK market.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• Mechanically identical to the standard GTV, the ‘Cup’ model is set apart by its Zender aero bodykit, comprising side skirts, front and rear bumper extensions, front brake vents and an eye-catching rear spoiler.
• Inside, the Cup features black leather and grey cloth-trimmed sports seats and darker grey centre console trim.
• As with all UK-market 3.0-litre V6 GTV Cup cars, this example is finished with Rosso Alfa paintwork, and rides on the correct set of 17-inch ‘teledial’ alloy wheels.
• Modifications include the more vocal Dual Wizard cat-back exhaust system and an uprated Autolusso oil cooler, while the common rear heated screen relay fix has also been carried out to correct a known flaw relating to the fuse box.
• The car will be accompanied by its stamped service book and a number of invoices for its past maintenance.

CONDITION

• No known bodywork damage.
• The bonnet, side skirts, rear bumper and rear spoiler were resprayed in August 2020 to correct some slight fading and minor blemishes, and Dynax anti-corrosion protection has been applied under the car, behind both bumpers, around the fuel tank and on the inner wings, inner sills and outer sills.
• Today, the Rosso Alfa paintwork is in very good condition, with some small marks including a hairline crack on the front splitter, which is also scuffed on its underside.
• Inside, the cabin presents very well indeed, and while there is some very minor wear on the driver’s outer side bolster and a chip to the plastic on the rear section of the centre console, these issues do not detract from the interior’s impressive overall condition.
• The circular plastic trims which usually cover the screws on the driver’s door card are also missing, and a carbon-effect sticker has been affixed towards the rear of the driver’s door card, possibly to cover a small hole or mark.
• There are no known electrical or mechanical faults, and there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard.
• The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 4 August 2020 at 59,059 miles, resulting in a clean pass following correct re-fitment of both front tyres.

SERVICE HISTORY

• This GTV Cup’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in April 2021 at 59,250 miles by Alfa Romeo specialist Go-Italia, who changed the engine oil and coolant.
• Prior to this, it was serviced in May 2019 aat 57,629 miles by marque specialist NJS, who replaced the cambelt and water pump, as well as the engine oil, brake fluid and coolant.
• During the seller’s ownership they have also had the air conditioning system re-gassed.

SUMMARY

With its stylish Pininfarina-designed bodywork, sonorous 24-valve ‘Busso’ V6 and engaging handling, this Alfa Romeo GTV Cup is a particularly appealing millennium-era sports car. One of only 155 UK-market examples, this well-maintained and lightly refurbished GTV Cup would make a fine addition to any Alfisti’s collection, and is ready to enjoy immediately.
