2002 AC SUPERBLOWER - 1,944 MILES

This 2002 AC Superblower is a thrilling open-top sports car, presented in fantastic condition throughout and with very low mileage. Under the bonnet is a 320bhp supercharged 5.0-litre Ford V8, which drives the rear wheels via an engaging five-speed manual gearbox, allowing the car to sprint from 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds. The odometer displays just 1,944 miles from new.

Continuing the legacy of the iconic AC Cobra, the Superblower was introduced by the AC Car Group in the late 1990s. Produced in Brooklands, its aluminium bodywork mirrored the original’s design as closely as possible, and the car was built using similar methods and tooling from the 1960s. In total, it is believed that just 22 examples were produced, and this is thought to be the penultimate car. First registered in March 2002, this example was acquired by the seller around three-and-a-half years ago, and has just one previous keeper on the V5C.

Today, the instantly recognisable bodywork remains in outstanding order, with no evidence of any prior accident damage and unblemished panels. Believed to be entirely original, the silver paintwork is accented by twin metallic burgundy racing stripes, and is described by the seller as being in excellent condition, thanks in part to the layer of paint protection film on the car’s nose. All of the brightwork, including the bumpers, headlight bezels and rear wheel arch trims is in great shape, and has been polished to a near mirror finish. The car rides on a set of Halibrand-style 16-inch alloy wheels, which feature silver painted centres and are pristine.

Stepping inside, the cabin is trimmed in burgundy leather with matching carpets. Both of the seats present very well indeed, with only minor creasing to their surfaces and some slight wear to the driver’s outer bolster, in line with the car’s use. The leather-wrapped dashboard and door cards are in great shape, and the steering wheel is unmarked. As a focused driver’s car, this AC is hardly laden with creature comforts; however it is fitted with a VDO CD player. All of the interior buttons, switches and electrical items work as they should, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

This Superblower’s most recent maintenance was carried out in April 2021 at 1,937 miles by AJ Tech. A full service, this included replacement of the engine oil and filter, as well as a general fluid top-up. The suspension components, drive shaft and prop shaft were also greased and the supercharger intake pipe was refitted. Prior to this, a full service was carried out in August 2017 by Redline Engineering, who replaced the feed and return fuel hoses, fitted silicone water hoses and added the car’s wind wings and tinted sun visors.

Its last MOT test was conducted on 24 March 2021 at 1,936 miles, which resulted in a clean first-time pass. All four wheels are fitted with Avon ZZ1 tyres, which are believed to be the car’s original set. While they are in good condition and have ample tread remaining, they may benefit from replacement due to their age.

This AC will be supplied with its original owner’s handbook and tool kit, as well as its removable headrests and vinyl hood.

This 2002 AC Superblower is a superb and exceptionally rare official continuation of perhaps the world’s most recognisable classic sports car, built by the AC Car Group. Presented in outstanding condition and with fewer than 2,000 miles on its odometer, it has nonetheless been maintained to a high standard, and is ready for its next owner to jump in the cockpit and experience the roar of its supercharged 5.0-litre V8.
