2001 RANGE ROVER 4.6 VOGUE (P38)

This Range Rover Vogue is a superb example of the iconic luxury 4x4, boasting celebrity provenance, a very desirable factory specification, and solid maintenance history. It is powered by a 4.6-litre V8 engine producing around 215bhp, coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer shows 87,030 miles from new.

First registered in February 2001, this Range Rover has four previous keepers on the V5C - the first of which was former Arsenal and England footballer Ian Wright MBE, who purchased the car via H.R. Owen in London. The history suggests that Mr Wright only kept the car for around six months, and since then, it has spent its life in Northern Ireland until very recently. The vendor around five months ago purchased it as a project to improve upon during lockdown, and the car now resides in Hertfordshire. The Range Rover is only being offered for sale due to a loss of storage for the vendor. It was previously offered in a Collecting Cars auction, but the winning bidder defaulted on the purchase.

The high quality and beautiful bodywork of this Range Rover Vogue presents in absolutely excellent condition, with no evidence of any prior damage. The Java Black paint is in very good order, with the vendor reporting two very minor scratches on the rear bumper's nearside, and appearing free of stone chips and dents. It is evident to see from the photos of this unique car that it is a distinguished and cherished P38 model, and the vendor makes particular mention that the bottoms of the doors are in perfect rust-free condition. Its gloss black aesthetic is accented by the polished tips of the upgraded JE Engineering exhaust system, which works together with the custom air intake to unlock the full aural character of the naturally aspirated V8, giving it a far more dramatic sound under throttle. It rides on the correct 18-inch Hurricane five-arm alloy wheels, which are pristine following a very recent refurbishment.

This Range Rover's cabin specification is particularly impressive and akin to that of an Autobiography, with Mr Wright having chosen some custom options that make this a high–spec car with a rare interior. Both front seats have full electric adjustment, with memory settings on the driver's side. For rear-seat passengers, it is equipped with entertainment screens, powered by an Alpine DVD system as well as a Sony PS One - and it retains a PS controller and two pairs of Sony headphones, plus the Alpine system remote controls. Other factory-fitted features include a tilt and slide sunroof, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, cruise control, and the original media screen system with satellite navigation, Harmon Kardon sound system, six-disc CD changer and radio cassette deck.

There is extensive use of walnut – which forms part of the very rare extended burr walnut pack – not only for the tulip wood and black leather steering wheel, dashboard strips and door panel inserts, but also the full centre console fascia, instrument gauge surround, and behind the front seats for the rare fold-down picnic tables and rear-seat entertainment screen housings. It is upholstered in very smart Ash leather throughout, which is original and remains in generally excellent condition, showing some slight wear to the front seat outer bolsters, and in the middle of the rear bench, where there is also some very marginal discolouration. Some very minor surface cracks are present in the inside of the veneer on the left-side picnic table. The vendor notes that some speakers would benefit from being upgraded, though there are no other known electrical foibles.

The last scheduled maintenance was carried out in August 2020 at approximately 86,000 miles, when the thermostat and coolant were replaced at the Letterboy Motor Company. Prior to this, it had an oil and filter service in November 2019 at around 85,000 miles. A comprehensive summary of the service history is included below.

Various improvements have been made during the vendor's brief ownership, including complete refurbishment of all four wheels, fitment of a new heavy duty battery, and renewal of the headlining. The air suspension has been overhauled with a new valve block and compressor, and the passenger window motor has also been replaced. The heated seats have also been reconditioned, and very recently it had two new brake pads and a new front right brake caliper fitted at Turners.

The vendor advises that the last MOT in Northern Ireland was carried out on 12 November 2019, and that due to the six-month extension, it does not expire until 11 May 2021. There were no reported advisories or alerts from this inspection. Bidders should note that MOT tests from Northern Ireland are not included on the government's online history website. The wheels were fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Zero tyres in October 2020, which have since covered around 200 miles, so remain in virtually new condition.

Accompanying this Range Rover is the original owner's handbook, in-car entertainment guide, navigation system manual, PlayStation PS One user guide, the stamped service portfolio, a wealth of receipts and various MOT certificates. The latter shows remarkably regular maintenance up until 2008 at 64,657 miles, and after that, the P38 was used more sparingly with longer gaps between services. However, it provides an excellent record of the mileage and maintenance carried out. Finally, there are two remote fob keys, plus the spare wheel and jack.

This Range Rover 4.6 Vogue is a great modern classic, with intriguing early provenance and an extensive Autobiography factory specification. The high-quality condition of the bodywork belies the age and mileage, and as such, this would be a brilliant addition to any collection. Having covered a recent 450-mile journey with absolutely no issues, and with the car running and driving very smoothly, the vendor is confident that this P38 should prove to be a reliable and sumptuous SUV for its next owner – as anything from an occasional weekend tourer to a refined and sophisticated daily driver.
