2001 PORSCHE 911 (996) GT2 CLUBSPORT

KEY FACTS

  • An exceptionally rare track-focused Porsche; one of just 70 built in Clubsport specification, and thought to be one of only around 20 in right-hand drive.
  • It is powered by the 456bhp 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six ‘Mezger’ engine, driven through the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
  • Fresh from a service at Porsche Centre Adelaide, having been driven sparingly over the last 10 years.

EQUIPMENT AND OPTIONS

  • The 996 GT2 was around 10 percent more powerful and 7 percent lighter than the 911 Turbo from which it evolved.
  • Porsche’s Clubsport option ensures that the car is ‘track ready’, incorporating a half roll cage, fire extinguisher, Recaro seats and six-point harnesses.
  • Most sources indicate that only 70 Clubsport cars were built, and it is believed that only around 20 examples were delivered in right-hand drive; including 17 to the UK and just two or three to Australia.
  • It is understood to have been ordered from the factory with standard brakes instead of the carbon ceramic discs normally found on the model, as the original owner did not want the ceramic items.
  • Retains its original Becker Porsche CDR-220 stereo, and also equipped with an aftermarket Blaupunkt navigation system.
  • All of the original books, including the owner’s manual, guarantee and maintenance book, and Deutscher Motor Sport Bund certification for the roll cage, are included in the sale.

Specification:

  • C23: Australian market car
  • XSJ: 6-point harness
  • XSM: Racing safety cage
  • 003: Clubsport equipment
  • 441: Radio preparation
  • 696: CD-radio Becker Porsche CDR-220
  • 722: Internal production code (GT-car)
  • 990: Cloth seats (GT)
  • 09991: Porsche Exclusive option

CONDITION

  • The car has no accident damage, and the bodywork is straight. A very recent inspection by Porsche Centre Adelaide noted one minor dent on the left-side rear wheel arch.
  • Paintwork is in very good original condition, as shown in the photo gallery below. The owner notes some wear on the front splitter, which is common given its low ride height.
  • The original black interior with Recaro seats is in good order, presenting minor wear on the driver’s side seat bolster. Its centre console plastics have superficial nicks and scratches from use.
  • Its floor mats were recently replaced.
  • The Becker stereo does not work, but otherwise the controls and electronics work as they should.
  • A roadworthiness inspection was carried out on 28 April, 2021, and the car passed without warning or advisory.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • Porsche Centre Adelaide performed an annual service on the car in April 2021 at 73,386 km, including replacing the spark plugs, fitment of new under covers, and adjustment of the suspension height.
  • A full check-over of the brakes, suspension, and drive belts was undertaken, and Porsche Centre Adelaide also carried out a comprehensive 111-point inspection, the results of which are shown in the gallery.
  • During the vendor’s ownership, the front and rear brake pads have been replaced, along with the brake fluid. It has also received a new fuel pump, gas struts, air cleaner and pollen filter, and had the transmission oil renewed.

SUMMARY

While 1,287 examples of the 996 GT2 were built, just 70 were completed by the factory in track-ready Clubsport specification, making this Porsche 911 an exceptionally rare performance car. It remains original and unmolested, and presents in very good order throughout. A compelling opportunity for any discerning Porsche collector; this is a wonderfully focused supercar that deserves to be wrung out on track to experience the full breadth and depth of its performance.
