2001 MORGAN AERO 8

This 2001 Morgan Aero 8 is a fantastic example of Morgan’s exceedingly rare first-generation contemporary sports car, in desirable right-hand-drive format. Powered by a 286bhp BMW-sourced 4.4-litre naturally aspirated V8 driving the rear wheels via a manual transmission, this example shows just 14,758 miles on the odometer. 

First registered on 24 October 2001, this Aero 8 has been in the care of the vendor for the last five years, during which time it has been cherished and enjoyed, with around 3,500 miles added to the odometer. In largely original condition throughout, this Aero 8 benefits from the upgrades of a dealer-supplied and fitted Librands sports exhaust, along with a Moto Lita steering wheel and aluminium gear knob.

The Solent Silver paintwork is in superb condition throughout, with only a minor smattering of stone chips to the front end, commensurate with the mileage. There are also small chips to the leading edge of the rear arches, which is a common occurrence on Aero 8s. Filling the wheel arches is the correct set of centre-lock OZ Racing magnesium alloy wheels.

The cabin of this Aero 8 is entirely original, and presents in great condition. The leather seats are beginning to show some minor signs of wear, and would benefit from re-connolising to make them look pristine again. The carpets are in excellent shape, as is the bespoke turned aluminium dashboard. Everything is working as it should, with no warning lights or faults.

Throughout the vendor’s ownership, the car has been regularly maintained, with the last service taking place during August 2018 at 13,112 miles, which was carried out by Techniques Morgan. This comprised of a major annual service, along with a brake fluid change, replacement of the driver’s side front wheel bearing, a full geometry check, investigation of a minor differential oil leak and replacement of the passenger side seat belt warning wiring. Prior to this, the last two services were carried out at 11,175 and 11,137 miles, with the latter including the fitting of new aux belts, track rod ends, differential seals and a full wheel refurbishment and alignment.

The most recent MOT took place on 9 March 2021, and resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. The front tyres are date-coded to 2015 and have 8mm of tread remaining, while the rears are from 2011 and have 5mm of tread remaining. Supplied with the vehicle are the original Morgan handbooks and service records, Mulberry leather glove pouch, original Morgan Aero 8 launch material and a file of servicing bills and past MOT certificates.

With only around 210 examples of the Series 1 Morgan Aero 8 produced, and with less than half of this number being in right-hand-drive, this is an exceedingly rare opportunity to own an esoteric V8 sports car in wonderful condition both inside and out, and with well-documented low mileage. Blending retro-inspired bodywork with modern underpinnings and fantastic performance, this Aero 8 would make for an exciting weekend car and a great addition to any collection.
