2001 HONDA CR500

This Honda CR500 is an immaculate example of the iconic and formidable motocross bike, which has been fully restored and enhanced with a number of high-performance components. It is powered by a water cooled 491cc two-stroke single-cylinder engine producing around 56bhp, which paired with its low 101kg weight made this a particularly competitive off-road racer.

Indeed, when it was first introduced in 1984, the CR500 was the most powerful motocross bike that Honda had ever produced, and soon gained a fearsome reputation due to its narrow power band but thrilling performance. Built in 2001, this example represents the final year of the model’s production, before it was superseded by the four-stroke CRF450.

Fully restored with the intention of racing, this CR500 has been fitted with a number of genuine and upgraded parts, including a Clarke Racing fuel tank, FMF exhaust pipes and a Pro Design Cool Head cylinder head. However, before the restored bike could be put back on the track, it was bought by the seller nine years ago, and has been kept meticulously stored since then, with annual oil changes.

Today, this Honda’s fully reconditioned frame and Clarke fuel tank are in great shape, having been repainted in the appropriate white hue. The vendor also notes that a new, genuine Honda left-hand casing has been fitted as they are commonly damaged by the chain, and the plastic items including the mudguards, radiator covers and number plate mount have also been replaced. Both wheels are in good order, and the durable Factory Effex seat cover is free of any rips or tears.

During this CR500’s nine years with the seller, it has been started once a year and the oil and coolant have been replaced. The vendor has never experienced any mechanical issues with the bike, and states that the foot pegs and kick start are like new, with little to no play. Both of its chunky Dunlop Sports tyres are as-new and remain in great shape.
