CONDITION

• No known bodywork damage.
• Both bumpers have been resprayed, and the original wheels have been powder-coated black. The front bumper and bonnet now have some light stone chips.
• The rear arches feature a few paint bubbles and patches of rust, which would benefit from some attention in the near future.
• Inside, the vendor has reported a few light scuffs on the passenger seat outer bolster, along with some discoloration to the black Alcantara seat panels.
• No electrical faults have been detected.
• The most recent MOT test was 27 November 2020 at 115,668 miles, which was a pass with one advisory to monitor play in the inner steering rack joints.

SERVICE HISTORY

• A new Yuasa 60AH battery was fitted in April 2021.
• Its most recent service was in November 2020 at 115,668 miles, where technicians at G.M. Autotech in Harleston, Norfolk polished the headlamps and changed the engine oil and filter, before adjusting the tracking on the front axle.
• The front brake callipers were replaced in 2018 and 2020.
• Four new Michelin PS4 215/45ZR17 XYL tyres fitted and re-balanced on a Hunter GSP machine in 2018.
• In 2018, corrosion was found on both front inner wings, near the suspension legs and box sections adjacent to the front floor pans. This was rectified by cutting back to clean metal and hand-fabricating steel repair panels. A small perforation in the toe-board above the pedals was also patched. The inner wing box sections were filled with Bilt Hamber S50 cavity wax and exterior surfaces finished in body colour and lacquer. All underbody repairs were finished in Schultz underseal and the whole underbody was rust-proofed with Bilt Hamber Dynax UB.
• The cambelt and tensioner have been replaced every five years, with intervals in 2017 at 104,893 miles, in 2012 at 76,000 miles, and in 2007 at 42,000 miles.

SUMMARY

This Honda Accord Type R is a very good example of the modern classic performance saloon, which has been well maintained and features some subtle modifications. While the next owner may wish to commission some straightforward cosmetic improvements to the rear arches, this Accord Type R is presented in good order, and would make a fun weekend car for any fan of Honda’s renowned VTEC engines.
