2001 AUDI RS4 AVANT

This Audi RS4 Avant is an impressive example of the marque’s lauded high-performance estate car, which is presented in superb condition following an extensive rebuild and refurbishment. It is powered by the 2.7-litre bi-turbo V6 engine - which produced 375bhp in stock specification - with all-wheel drive via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 138,388 miles from new, though its condition belies the mileage.

First registered in July 2001, this RS4 Avant has six previous registered keepers on the log book. It was acquired by the current owner five years ago, who has invested a significant amount into bringing the car up to a remarkably good standard. This RS4 has been through a detailed programme of restoration works over the last six years, including subtle performance modifications using new OEM and upgraded components.

The bodywork of this RS4 is in excellent condition, with no dents or scratches in any panels, and no evidence of any accident damage. The car also comes with a clean HPI report. It was treated to a full respray in 2016, with replacement genuine Audi front wings, as the original parts had started to corrode. The seller describes the black paint as being immaculate, as it has covered less than 1,000 miles since the fresh coat was applied.

There are no cracks or chips in any of the light lenses, and the window and door rubbers are all sound. The plastic trims of the grille and the front and rear bumpers are in great shape, and there appear to be only minor chips and a few small scratches on the wing mirror housings. It rides on the correct 18-inch nine-spoke alloy wheels, which appear to be pristine with no kerb marks or paint peel.

Inside, the black leather upholstery remains in very good order, with only modest wear commensurate with the car’s age and use. The electrically adjustable and heated front seats present well, without the heavy bolster wear that can be found on less well cared-for examples. The carbon-fibre trim strips around the dashboard and door cards are in superb condition, with no cracks or other damage. It is fitted with black carpets throughout, with RS4 floor mats.

There are a few small marks and scratches from use in some of the plastics, around the door handles in particular, but in general the interior is very smart. The steering wheel has been re-trimmed in synthetic suede, and the gear knob is a smart knurled metal item. Factory-fitted equipment includes climate control, an electric sunroof, BOSE speakers, and the Audi Navigation Plus media system.

Mechanically, this RS4 Avant is in excellent condition, and benefits from a significant spend over the last six years. In 2014, the Cosworth-developed engine was fully rebuilt to standard specifications, using genuine Audi parts. A brand-new gearbox was also sourced direct from Audi and fitted the following year. More recently, the powertrain has been uprated with TTE600 hybrid turbochargers, new injectors and fuel pump, and Wagner intercoolers.

The exhaust was upgraded using Wagner manifolds, a downpipe design by MRC Tuning, and Milltek back boxes. In 2019, a full strip and rebuild of the brakes, suspension, and rear sub-frame was carried out, with the new components comprising: Hotchkis front and rear anti-roll bars, a complete Bilstein B16 coilover suspension kit, higher-grade bushes throughout, and an upgraded to B7 RS4 front brake discs and calipers with Ferodo DS2500 pads.

The last scheduled maintenance was carried out in March 2020 at the seller’s own workshop business, which consisted of a routine oil change and inspection. Having spent a few years off the road during the comprehensive rebuild, it was put through an MOT test on 24 July 2019 at 138,359 miles, which it passed first time with no advisories whatsoever.

The alloy wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres in size 255/35 ZR18 all round, which are date-coded to 2015 but were fitted as fresh items last year, so remain in as-new condition.

This Audi RS4 Avant is a coveted performance car, which is presented in superb order throughout. It offers a compelling blend of understated looks, a practical cabin, and a powerful engine, which makes it equally well suited to thrilling trips on incredible roads as it does to serving as an exciting daily driver. There cannot be many examples of the model that benefit from such recent and significant investment into both their cosmetic and mechanical condition, so this is a great opportunity if you have always wanted to own a B5-era RS4.
