2000 SUBARU IMPREZA P1 LIMITED EDITION

This Subaru Impreza P1 is an excellent example of the rare Limited Edition, boasting single-owner provenance and benefiting from a genuine replacement engine. Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre, turbocharged flat-four that develops 276bhp, transmitting the power to all four wheels via a slick five-speed manual gearbox. With the new engine fitted at 96,000 miles, the odometer now shows 156,478 miles, and this P1 remains original and unmodified.

As with all P1s, the car is finished in Sonic Blue with the correct 10-spoke Prodrive alloy wheels in their original shade of gunmetal grey. During the vendor’s ownership, he has ensured this modern classic remains in superb condition, while also being driven as intended. Therefore, the bodywork and paint has received cosmetic attention to maintain its appearance, and presents in a condition that arguably belies its indicated mileage.

As with the exterior, the interior has been treated to areas of refurbishment, with the driver’s seat being reupholstered with an original and correct Prodrive seat cover. There is also some bobbling on the seat bases that is to be expected given the material used, but there is no heavy wear or discolouration. There is minor wear to the rest of the interior trim, but its condition again reflects a very well-cared for and well-maintained P1.

In 2011, the owner was presented with the opportunity to acquire the very last P1 specification engine, and did so, having it installed at around 96,000 miles, and with all hoses also being replaced at this time. Therefore, the mileage on the new engine is around 60,000 miles.

Underneath the car shows to be in good structural condition with only light patination showing on some suspension and chassis components, but nothing that should be a cause for concern to the next custodian.

Not only benefiting from being a one-owner car, this Subaru has also been maintained exclusively at the same supplying dealer - Ashburton Motor Works - from new. The last service was carried out there at 156,433 miles in September 2020, which was an engine oil and filter change as well as a general check-over after coming out of three years in dehumidified storage.

Prior to this, the car was fully serviced and fitted with a new clutch and flywheel at 151,178 miles in November 2016, with another service completed along with handbrake shoes and a rear exhaust section replaced at 146,674 miles in April 2016. The drive belts and all pulleys were replaced during the service in August 2015.

The most recent MOT test was on 17 June 2020 at 156,425 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with only one advisory regarding slight binding on the nearside front brake, which was simply attributed to having been in storage for several years - and was inspected as part of the check-over in September 2020. In 2017, during its time in storage, all four tyres were replaced with Pirelli P Zero Nero items, and they remain in virtually as-new condition.

The rise in interest shown towards modern Japanese performance cars is now bringing cars like this Subaru Impreza P1 into the eyes of many resourceful collectors. This car is a fastidiously maintained and enthusiastically enjoyed example that is ready to provide its next owner with many more miles of smiles.
