2000 RILEY & SCOTT MK VII INDY CAR

KEY FACTS

  • A freshly rebuilt and modernised IndyCar, engineered specifically to run in the new FIA Masters Single-Seater Demos class.
  • It is powered by a 3.5-litre Chevrolet Gen II IRL V8, producing 640hp at the wheels, coupled to an Xtrac 195 sequential transmission.
  • Has completed two shakedown sessions with racing driver Jessica Hawkins, and is entered for the next round of the Demos class at Brand Hatch (29-30 May 2021).
  • Eligible for various motorsport including FIA Masters Single-Seater Demos, BOSS GP, and Maxx Formula racing series.

SPECIFICATION

  • Taking as its foundation an original Riley & Scott Mk VII developed for the 2000 IndyCar series, this is a fresh build incorporating uprated mechanicals and electronics, and is an ideal candidate for the latest FIA Masters Historic Racing event.
  • While built in 2000, this chassis was never shipped to the US to participate in IndyCar; instead it spent most of its life on static display in the UK. Given its ‘zero miles’ status, it was chosen as the perfect foundation for a comprehensive overhaul and upgrade.
  • Every single chassis component has been stripped and checked, and replaced where required, to ensure this single-seater is in superb condition. Compared to a similar age F1 car, the cockpit is very spacious, allowing larger drivers to get behind the wheel.
  • The bodywork was refinished in red with a Truesports / Budweiser livery as a tribute to the cars raced by three-time Indy Car World Series champion, Bobby Rahal. Its aerodynamics were set up to be in high downforce / road race trim.
  • Its powertrain is a 3.5-litre Chevrolet Racing Gen II V8 IRL engine, coupled to an Xtrac 195 sequential transmission, which produces around 640hp at the wheels. For convenience and safety, the powertrain was modernised to run E85 fuel, and features a custom-built flywheel with additional sensor points, plus a complete new loom.
  • All of the period electronics were removed, and in their place is the latest specification LIFE F88 ECU, which enabled the installation of traction control and launch control. The steering wheel has been upgraded to LIFE SD4 specification enabling paddle shift and modern levels of adjustability.
  • Following the overhaul programme, this Riley & Scott Mk VII has completed just two 10-minute shakedown sessions in April 2021 in the hands of racing driver Jessica Hawkins, so it remains in superb order throughout. It is also entered for the next round of the FIA Masters Single-Seater Demos class at Brands Hatch on 29-30 May 2021.
  • Accompanying the car are all of the relevant build documents, plus full invoices detailing more than £50,000 of preparation and upgrade work. A spare set of wheels and starting equipment is also included.
  • The team that built the car, John Danby Racing, is on hand to facilitate viewings and discuss the car in detail, and they can also offer direct support to help run the car at the FIA Masters or any other European events.

SUMMARY

This Riley & Scott Mk VII is a fantastic modern classic racer, which was discovered as a zero-miles chassis, and which has since been fully overhauled and upgraded to run in the new FIA Masters Single-Seater Demos class.
