2000 MERCEDES-BENZ E55 AMG

This Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG is a high-performance saloon, presented in excellent condition, and with a discerning factory specification. Under the bonnet is a 5.4-litre V8, producing around 349bhp, coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission, which is capable of launching the car from 0-60mph in just 5.4 seconds.

First registered in April 2000, this E55 has just two previous keepers on the log book, and was acquired by its current owner just over three years ago. The odometer shows 82,928 miles.

Its bodywork is reported to be in excellent condition, with no evidence of any prior damage to the panels. The paint hue is Mercedes-Benz’s Green Black Metallic, which appears more as a dark blue with a turquoise tint, and it presents very well for the age and mileage. There are very small stone chips around the lower front bumper and lower mesh grille, and a minor chip to the leading edge of the rear passenger door. Some other small age-related marks are visible, but overall this is a remarkably well-presented example. It rides on polished 18-inch AMG ‘monoblock’ alloy wheels, which have some slight lacquer blemishes due to a chemical cleaner, but no kerbing grazes or other damage.

The interior presents just as well, with the black leather in superb condition for its age, showing only modest wear on the bolsters. There are no rips or other damage to the seat coverings, and the rest of the interior trim is also in great shape. The only note from the vendor is that the passenger side interior wood trim is lifting very slightly from the backing, but this is a minor point and would be easy to remedy. Factory-fitted equipment includes electrically adjustable multi-contour front seats with memory settings and heating, climate control and cruise control. The vendor notes that the driver’s side window works, but sometimes fails to go back up after the car has been off the road for longer periods. It is remedied after a short drive, which is likely a sign that it will require a new window regulator in the near future. There are no other electrical foibles or faults, and no warning lights on the dashboard.

The last scheduled maintenance was in October 2016 at 74,070 miles, carried out by Mercedes-Benz Eastbourne, which consisted of an engine oil and filter service. At approximately 73,000 miles, the front anti-roll bar drop links were renewed, and replacement items were fitted for the gear selector module and accelerator pedal sensor. The vendor has also fitted a new battery. They also report that there is an intermittent exhaust blow that has received a temporary fix, but requires a proper repair. A summary of the maintenance history is included below.

The most recent MOT test was on 26 November 2020 at 82,924 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with advisories regarding wear and slight cracking to the front tyres. The latter would now benefit from replacement, while the rear tyres are in good order with around 4.5mm of tread.

Accompanying the car is a complete Mercedes-Benz book pack, including the stamped maintenance record, and a number of service invoices. The tool rool, spare wheel and jack are also present.

This Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG is a well-preserved example of a true modern classic. The vendor advises that it has been kept as part of private collections for most of its life, being properly stored, and as such its condition is arguably closer to a car with half the stated mileage. It would be a great addition to any garage, ready for spirited drives on fair weather days, and equally well suited to exciting road trips as it is to the school run.
