Its 1.8-litre VTEC inline four-cylinder engine boasts higher compression, a larger throttle body, high lift camshafts and a higher-volume exhaust manifold than the standard Integra, produces 197bhp and is coupled with an engaging close-ratio five-speed manual gearbox. First introduced to the Japanese market in 1995 before hitting UK showrooms in 1997, the Integra Type R’s purpose was to improve handling and minimise weight, resulting in the removal of driver aids like cruise control, and air conditioning now appearing as a factory option.
