2000 FERRARI 550 MARANELLO

KEY FACTS

  • Boasting a likely unique factory specification, this superb GT is equipped with the rare Fiorano Handling Package.
  • Under the bonnet is a 478bhp 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine, mated to an open-gate six-speed manual transmission.
  • It has been owned by the vendor for nearly six years, and benefits from a recent full cambelt replacement service.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • Still in its original factory specification, this 550 is finished in the very smart combination of Blu Tour de France over tan leather, and was ordered with Daytona seat stripes in contrasting Blu Scuro leather. The roof pillars, dashboard, and steering wheel were also trimmed in Blu Scuro.
  • This particular 550 Maranello was also specified with the very rare Fiorano Handling Package, as found on the ‘World Speed Record' edition cars. It comprises a revised steering ECU, lower and stiffer springs, a thicker rear anti-roll bar and uprated brake pads
  • Other lesser-seen options on this car include quilted leather for the luggage shelf and headliner, as well as a matching leather sheath for the fire extinguisher.
  • The exterior is accented by Scuderia wing shields.
  • It comes with the original books, including the stamped maintenance record, plus a reasonable amount of old paperwork and the original tool kit briefcase.

CONDITION

  • There is no known prior bodywork damage.
  • The Blu Tour de France finish is in generally very good condition, with the front bumper having previously been scuffed and professionally repainted to blend into the wings.
  • Overall, the interior is in good order, though there are some parts of the leather trim that would benefit from reaffixing. The leather around the door cards and dashboard has lifted or pulled back slightly in places, so would benefit from being re-stretched and re-glued to give it a smarter appearance. The seats are in great shape, as is the headliner and rear shelf.
  • The window on the driver’s side occasionally fails to drop/adjust correctly when the door is opened, which is a common 550 foible.
  • Other than an inoperative stereo, there are no other known electrical faults.
  • The most recent MOT test was on 14 September 2020 at 18,773 miles, which resulted in a pass with only one advisory regarding a worn offside front tyre - but both front tyres have since been replaced.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • In August 2020 at 18,764 miles, the car received a full service and cambelt change at Slade’s Garage, and it has covered only around 200 miles since then.
  • In October 2015 at 18,695 miles, an extensive service was carried out at Maranello Egham; while in September 2013 at 17,931 miles, the car had another cambelt replacement service at Ferrari specialist Shiltech.

SUMMARY

This Ferrari 550 Maranello is a handsomely specified modern GT car and a very rare find with the Fiorano Handling Package, which sharpens the already-impressive handling. The 550 remains a sought-after flagship V12 from the Italian maker’s back catalogue, combining pace, practicality and long-distance touring comfort with one of the last truly analogue driving experiences from Maranello.
