2000 FERRARI 550 MARANELLO

This Ferrari 550 Maranello is a low-mileage example of Ferrari’s front-engined two-seat GT car, presenting in the classy colour combination of Grigio Titanio over a Bordeaux interior. Powered by a 5.5-litre, 478hp naturally aspirated V12 coupled to the desirable gated manual transmission, this example shows 42,671 miles on the odometer.

First registered on 15 March 2000 and owned by the vendor for the last 12 years, this 550 has been driven sparingly by them but thoroughly enjoyed, and was recently the subject of a major recommissioning, which has been well documented, and cost in excess of £15,000.

The Grigio Titanio paintwork presents in good condition, with only a few minor marks on the front bumper and the usual age-related smattering of stone chips. There are signs of bubbling on the rear bumper, while the nearside door paintwork has some signs of swirling, and there is a small section of bubbling on the nearside skirt just behind the front wheel.

In 2009, the car was involved in a collision, resulting in cosmetic damage that was repaired. There was no claim made against the insurance, so the car has no HPI markers. It received a new front bumper, nearside door, nearside rear wing, nearside rear wheel, rear top and lower wishbones, and a new nearside driveshaft. The paintwork carried out following these replacement items was blended well with the factory finish on the rest of the car.

The interior of the car is believed to be all original, with the rich colour of the Bordeaux leather contrasting superbly against the Grigio Titanio body. The leather on the seats is starting to show signs of wear, with some scuffs and wrinkling on the driver’s seat in particular, but there is commensurate with the mileage. The carpets and centre console all present very well for their age, with the metal open-gate shifter in excellent condition. Everything is reported to be working as intended, with no warning lights or electrical faults to note.

Due to being stored for a number of years, this 550 Maranello has received a thorough recommissioning at the hands of Omega Motorsport during 2021. While the full invoice is available at the end of the photo gallery below, highlights of this work include a full major service , cam belt change, gearbox oil change, air-conditioning re-gas, new spark plugs, new filters and a brake fluid change. Prior to this, services were carried out during October 2016 and October 2010 by Autofficina at 42,491 and 36,817 miles respectively. A history of known services can be found at the end of this listing.

The last MOT test was carried out on 8 March 2021 at 42,671 miles, and resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. The vendor notes that while all tyres are in good visual condition, the rears are date-coded 2010, though the front pair is newer.

It is supplied with a good history file including numerous invoices and other paperwork, and with the original leather-bound tool kit. There is only one key present, and while the stamped warranty and service record is with the car, the owner’s manual is missing.

The Ferrari 550 Maranello was a return-to-form for the marque after a 23-year gap in their lineup, with their previous two-seat, front-engined GT car being the 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’. Presenting in smart condition and with genuine low mileage, this 550 Maranello makes a superb long-distance continental cruiser, but would be just as exciting on a weekend morning blast along your favourite roads.
