1999 TVR GRIFFITH 5.0

This 1999 TVR Griffith 5.0 is a low-mileage example of the lively British sports car, presented in superb condition thanks to a recent extensive restoration. Under the bonnet sits the 340bhp 5.0-litre naturally aspirated alloy V8, driving the rear wheels via a slick Borg Warner five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 43,777miles from new.

This TVR benefits from extensive restoration work – carried out between 2013 and 2017 at ADW Automotive – which included the fitment of new suspension, brakes and alloy wheels, alongside new wheel bearings, a replacement differential, a set of polybushes and Bilstein shock absorbers. Inside, the carpets have been replaced to match their original colour, while the seats have been cleaned and the leather facings re-coloured. This Griffith also benefits from having power steering. The vehicle has only covered circa 3,000 miles since the restoration. First registered in June 1999, the car has been in the hands of its current keeper for around 18 months.

The bodywork of this Griffith presents very well, and is not believed to have ever sustained damage to the panels. During the restoration, the chassis was steam cleaned, inspected and hand cleaned with an MBX tool and coated with white POR 15 paint, while the underside of the body shell and wheel arches were painted with Forch Stone Guard. The condition of the resprayed Azzuro Nuvola paintwork has been described as excellent, presenting with minimal wear even to vulnerable areas like the front bumper and bonnet.

The hood and targa panel have been replaced with blue cloth to match the interior carpets and now present in very good order, along with the headlight lenses and body trims. The vehicle rides on a set of chemically stripped and re-finished 15-inch alloy wheels, which remain free of any notable damage.

Inside, the interior trim is in superb order, and the dark blue leather which covers the seats presents with just some light creasing. The aluminium dashboard trim is free of any major scratches or scuffs, along with the contact points on the three-spoke steering wheel and gear knob. One or two minor faults have been noted, such as a re-affixed boot release button and a flimsy glovebox catch, though this has been replaced with a magnet. All of the switchgear is reported to work as it should, and there are no warning lights present.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in February 2021 at 43,742 miles, where technicians at Castle Sportscars in Bishop’s Stortford changed the engine oil and filter as part of an interim service. Prior to this, in July 2019 at 43,388 miles, Bespoke Performance in Ware changed the engine oil, filters, spark plugs, brake fluid, fuel pump relay and power enhancer as part of a full 12-month service. In July 2018 at 42,930 miles, the car was seen by ADW Automotive in Elmley Lovett, where the engine oil and filter were changed.

The most recent MOT test was on 22 February 2021 at 43,743 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The wheels come wrapped with a set of Toyo tyres, which are around two years old and are reported to be in good condition.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original owner’s book, along with two keys, the full toolkit, a photographic record of the restoration and a selection of maintenance invoices.

This TVR Griffith is a beautifully restored example, with elegant Azzuro Nuvola paintwork and genuine low mileage. Presented in excellent condition and with a strong maintenance history both before and after its restoration, this exciting convertible sports car is ready to be relished on the open road.
