This Subaru Impreza RB5 is a rare limited edition of an iconic performance car, presented in superb order throughout. It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine, producing around 218bhp, with all-wheel drive via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 44,224 miles from new.

Built to celebrate works driver Richard Burns, using his initials and his familiar race number, just 444 examples of the RB5 were built. All featured Steel Blue paintwork and matching Alcantara interior trim, 17-inch Speedline alloy wheels, a short-shift gear lever, solid rear bulkhead for extra rigidity, and an STI-style rear wing. There were also PIAA driving lights with RB5-labelled covers, an RB5 numbered plaque, and RB5 floor mats.

This particular car - number 372 of 444 - was first registered in June 1999, and there are four previous registered keepers on the log book. The current owner bought the car two years ago, and has driven it sparingly since then.

Today, the bodywork presents in excellent condition, having recently had all of the arches refurbished to eradicate and prevent rust, as well as a small repair to the offside front door. It has impressive shut lines and panel gaps all around the car, and has a wonderful ‘stock’ appearance. The arches were professionally repainted to blend with the rest of the body, and the Steel Blue paintwork has a smooth and glossy finish. There are just some very minor stone chips around the front bumper, and similar blemishes on the bonnet, but otherwise it presents superbly.

The interior remains original and unmodified, with a combination of grey and blue upholstery for the front sport seats and the rear bench. There is absolutely no damage to the fabric, and barely any wear to speak of either. The red stitching from the seats carries across to the Momo steering wheel and gear knob, which are trimmed in black leather. Factory-fitted equipment includes air-conditioning, and even the original Subaru stereo unit is still fitted.

Mechanically, this Impreza is in good order - it starts, runs, and drives very smartly on the road. The only modification from standard specification was the addition of a new exhaust. Its front brake calipers were renewed around 5,000 miles ago, and there are invoices on file for a few previous services.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 14 February 2020 at 44,183 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. It wears Continental tyres on the front axle, and Michelin items on the rear, in size 205/45 ZR17 all round - all of which are in good condition.

This Subaru Impreza Turbo RB5 is a low-mileage example of a superb modern performance car, presented in excellent condition throughout. Not only an exciting machine to drive on the road, but also a rare limited edition that will impress the crowds at car shows, this Impreza is sure to delight its next owner.
