1999 RANGE ROVER 4.6 AUTOBIOGRAPHY (P38)

This Range Rover Autobiography is a handsome luxury SUV, presented in a lesser-seen factory colour scheme, and with a very high specification. Under the bonnet is the 4.6-litre V8 engine producing around 215bhp, coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer shows 142,622 km (88,621 miles) from new.

Originally a Japanese market car, which has evidently been well maintained, this Range Rover was sourced and exported to the UK in 2019, being re-registered in September that year. It was acquired by the current owner around eight months ago. The appropriate registration ‘G6 RVR’ is included in the sale.

Finished to a bespoke Autobiography specification, this Range Rover left the factory in smart Woodcote Green, with an interior trimmed in cream leather with dark green accents and extended burr walnut veneers. It also features a leather headlining, glass sunroof, cruise control, rear picnic tables, front seat memory settings, Harmon Kardon sound system, side steps, and Autobiography floor mats. Air suspension was also specified, and the car now has DAB digital radio and a reversing camera. The windows have the commonly fitted wind deflectors, which are easily removed.

This Range Rover’s bodywork is described as being in excellent condition, with no signs of corrosion, and no accident damage. Its Woodcote Green paint finish looks smooth and even around the panels, and there are only very minor marks from road use, which can be spotted on close inspection. The black plastic trims have faded slightly in places, but overall this is a remarkably well-presented car. It rides on 18-inch ‘Mondial’ alloy wheels, which have some very small chips around the rims, but still look smart.

Stepping inside, the extent of the Autobiography specification is more obvious. Superb two-tone cream and green leather gives this Range Rover a wonderful bespoke ambience, while the extended burr walnut veneers add a touch more sophistication. The leather upholstery is still in great shape for its age, with no heavy wear on the seats - an increasingly rare find among P38s - and now showing only modest signs of use. Some very minor hairline cracks are present on some of the wood trims, but other than that, this car certainly belies its age.

Just over a year after arriving in the UK, this Range Rover was given a major service in October 2020 at approximately 141,000 km by Land Rover specialist GSF Motor Works in London. This comprised engine, differential, and gearbox oil changes, new oil/air/cabin filters, a replacement engine breather pipe, a new drive belt, replacement of two front air springs, spark plugs, and a new fuel filter. The boot struts were also renewed, along with the offside front window motor and regulator, and the tyres, followed by a wheel alignment session. Previous history is in Japanese, but is summarised below.

Its first MOT test in the UK was on 19 August 2020 at 141,522 km, which it passed at the first attempt with no advisories whatsoever. A full set of Continental CrossContact tyres was fitted last year, and they remain in as-new condition.

Accompanying the car is its original Japanese paperwork, along with a tailored soft boot liner, spare wheel, and a tool kit and jack.

This Range Rover Autobiography is a striking example of the stylish millennium-era model, which benefits from a very high bespoke factory specification, and which has clearly been well-cared for throughout its life to date. Equipped with the desirable 4.6-litre V8, it would be a great addition to any assembly of modern classics, and could even be put into more regular use as a sophisticated daily driver should the next owner so desire.
