1999 JAGUAR XJR

This 1999 Jaguar XJR is a potent yet refined British luxury saloon, presented in highly original condition and with low mileage from new. Under the bonnet is the supercharged 4.0-litre V8, which produces 370bhp and is driven through the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission. The odometer displays just 48,935 miles, which is fully supported by the car’s service history.

First registered on 12 February 1999, this X308-generation XJR was purchased by the seller from a dealer in March 2020. It was then lightly refurbished, and has been maintained fastidiously ever since.

The bodywork presents handsomely, with straight, even panel gaps and no evidence of any accident damage or corrosion. The bright Platinum Silver paintwork also presents very well, and while there are some minor stone chips on the nose and a small scuff on the passenger-side door mirror cover, this is commensurate with the car’s use. Furthermore, the seller notes that the rear quarter panels, windscreen aperture, boot lid and rear bumper were resprayed to a high standard by Malton Coachworks in March 2020, and the finish has been fully detailed to maximise its gloss and remove any minor swirl marks or scratches. This XJR rides on its original set of 18-inch ‘Penta’ alloy wheels, which have been refurbished and are pristine.

On stepping into the cabin, you are met by swathes of black leather, which covers the seats, dashboard and centre console, and is punctuated by handsome wood trim. Although there are some creases on the seats – and on the driver’s seat’s bolsters in particular – these are minor, especially when considering the car’s age. Elsewhere, the glossy wood trim is in great shape, and the leather-wrapped steering wheel and automatic gear selector are unmarked. Overhead, the headlining is immaculate, having been replaced in 2020, when the central armrest/storage compartment mechanism was also renewed.

Factory-fitted equipment includes electrically adjustable front seats, climate control and a premium Harman/Kardon sound system. Although the cruise control system is not functioning, the seller states that they have not identified any other faults with the car’s buttons, switches or electrical items, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

This Jaguar’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in March 2020 at 46,623 miles by Gilesgate Autocare, who replaced the water pump, radiator hoses and front drop links with new, genuine parts. Furthermore, the air-conditioning compressor, condenser and drier were replaced, and the system was recharged in September 2020 at 47,385 miles, again by Gilesgate Autocare.

During its current keeper’s ownership, the car was fitted with the correct replacement front and rear ‘CATS’ adaptive dampers in June 2020, and a full wheel alignment was carried out in July 2020. Prior to this, specialist Prestige Jaguar serviced the car regularly, performing engine oil and filter changes in September 2019 at 46,073 miles and in September 2018 at 45,605 miles.

Its last MOT test was conducted in April 2021 at 48,717 miles, which it passed after the steering rack bolts were re-torqued. Advisories were issued for stone guard covering the brake pipes, and play in the rear wheel bearings; however, the seller states that this was minor, and is not in need of immediate attention. All four wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, which were fitted in May 2020 and are in excellent condition, with 7mm of tread remaining at the front and 6mm at the rear.

This XJR will be accompanied by its full original book pack and stamped service book. The seller will also supply a comprehensive folder of paperwork, which details the car’s upkeep and maintenance.

Combining impressive pace and sublime comfort in one sleek package, this X308-generation Jaguar XJR is a wonderful example of the luxurious sports saloon. Maintained to a very high standard and described by its current owner as possibly one of the finest examples on the market, it is sure to delight its next owner at every opportunity, whether they opt to save it for special occasions or put it into service as a refined daily driver.
