1999 HONDA CIVIC VTi-S JORDAN

A superb example of a limited-edition hot hatch, this 1999 Honda Civic VTI-S Jordan is presented in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. As the EK9 Type R was never officially offered in the UK, this Civic represented the fastest model available at the time. It is powered by a 1.6-litre DOHC VTEC engine, producing 160hp at 7,600rpm, coupled to a slick five-speed manual gearbox, which drives the front wheels. The odometer shows 86,401 miles from new.

Based on the standard EK4 Civic VTi, 500 examples of this special edition were created to celebrate Honda’s relationship with the Jordan Formula One team, for which they provided engines from the 1998 season until 2001.

This particular car is number 79 of 500, as evidenced by the plaque engraved with Eddie Jordan’s signature, which is fitted beside the gear lever. Of the original build run, fewer than 150 are believed to remain on the road, and there can be few that look as impressive as this example. There is just one previous registered keeper on the log book, and it was acquired by the seller less than a year ago.

A totally unmodified example – an unusual quality for a late-90s performance hatchback – this Civic VTI-S Jordan is painted in the Sunlight Yellow hue that makes these editions so unique. The paintwork is clean and well cared-for, with the only defects to speak of being some stone chips to the front end, and a small scratch on the bonnet. It also sports the original Type R-style body kit, Jordan decals and 15-inch split-spoke alloy wheels, which are in excellent condition. Its sunroof is in perfectly working order.

Perhaps even bolder than the outside, the interior leaves no doubt as to the car’s special edition status. The yellow and black leather seats are unique to the Jordan cars, and feature the ‘Buzzin Hornets’ logo, which also appears on the tailored floor mats. All of the trim is in very good order, with only modest wear to the leather in line with the age and mileage. The boot area is also in great shape, and there is a matching full-size spare wheel present.

Mechanically, this Civic VTI-S Jordan is very good condition, with its last full service being in 2019 at 86,227 miles, which included replacement of the camshaft timing belt and water pump. Prior to this, recent services were also carried out at 86,048 miles and 76,020 miles.

Its last MOT test was carried out on 15 May 2019 at 86,227 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. The wheels are fitted with a full set of Toyo Proxes T1-R tyres in size 195/55 R15, which were fitted in 2019 and have plenty of tread remaining.

In addition, the seller is including the original manufacturer’s toolkit, an extra centre cap for the full-sized spare wheel and extensive documentation for the car, including service notes, past MOT certificates and the owner’s manual. A full set of keys and remote fobs is also present.

Providing nostalgic charm and brisk performance, this Honda Civic VTI-S Jordan is a rare modern classic, presented in superb condition throughout. Remaining in a highly original and unmodified state, this would no doubt attract nods of approval at local shows, but should also prove to be a thoroughly enjoyable reliable 1990s hot hatch.
