1999 FERRARI 550 MARANELLO - 29,047 MILES

A wonderful, low-mileage example of the marque’s acclaimed GT car from the late 1990s, this Ferrari 550 Maranello is presented in very good order. Fitted with the tractable, naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V12 engine producing 478bhp, and mated to a traditional open-gated six-speed manual transmission, the car shows just 29,407 miles from new.

Finished in the popular combination of Grigio Titanio over Nero leather, this 550 was first registered in the UK in January 1999 and retains its standard factory specification, save for the desirable addition of a sports exhaust. The most recent private owner acquired the car in September 2017, and it is now offered for sale on the owner’s behalf.

The car’s exterior appearance and condition is as one would expect for a car of this age and mileage, with the smart paintwork featuring some light stone chips and very small scuffs around the front. There is evidence of some previous paintwork along the sides, likely carried out some years ago to maintain its lustre. The vendor is not aware of any prior damage, the panels are all in good order. It rides on the correct 18-inch alloy wheels, which all present very well.

The interior trim is complete and is in good order, showing just a minimal amount of wear to the driver’s seat bolster as one would expect. An updated Pioneer head unit is present along with a carbon-fibre gear knob. The headlining is finished in the optional matching Nero hide, and the carpeted rear luggage shelf features the two leather luggage retaining straps. Overall, the condition of the cabin reflects the low indicated mileage, and how well it has been cared for over the years.

In terms of maintenance, the car had a service and cambelt change carried out by Bell Sport & Classic in September 2020, with the two previous services in 2017 at 24,350 miles and in 2014 at 24,124 miles - with new cambelts on each of these occasions as well.

The last MOT test was on 7 October 2020 at 29,390 miles, with no advisories recorded. The car is shod with the correctly sized 255/40 ZR18 fronts and 295/35 ZR18 rear Bridgestone Potenza tyres, with depths of between 4-5mm all round. The fronts were renewed in 2016, the rears in 2017. The car also comes complete with the correct, and original, Ferrari book pack, including stamped service book, as well as two sets of keys and the red master remote.

This Ferrari 550 Maranello is a clean, well-maintained and well-cared for car that would continue to deliver to its next custodian the attributes that made the model so well-received at its launch. It remains a highly regarded flagship V12 from the Italian maker’s back catalogue, combining GT car practicality and long-distance touring comfort with one of the last truly analogue driving experiences that the manufacturer was renowned for.
