1999 FERRARI 355 F1 SPIDER - LHD

This Ferrari 355 F1 Spider is a very low-mileage example of an iconic Pininfarina-styled modern classic, finished in a handsome colour scheme and benefiting from comprehensive recent maintenance. Under the rear decklid is the 375bhp 3.5-litre V8 with five valves per cylinder (hence ‘355’), coupled to a six-speed automated transmission with paddle shift.

First registered in the US in 1999, this is a California delivered left-hand-drive Ferrari, which remained on that continent until it was exported to the UK and re-registered there in January 2018. It remains in the original factory specification, even down to the original exhaust back box and catalytic converters.

The bodywork and paint presents in superb condition, and it was recently treated to a comprehensive clean and detail of the Grigio Titanio paint. A small dent was also removed from the front bonnet, which had not damaged the paint, and was professionally manipulated back into shape. It presents with some very minor stone chips, with one in the centre of the front bumper, and another on the driver’s door - both of which are pictured.

The front and rear bumpers have evidently received some fresh paint in the past, as the US specification reflectors have been deleted, and the correct UK specification side markers have been installed. The vendor reports that the underside is wonderfully clean, reflecting the care that has been paid to this Ferrari. Its blue soft top hood is in great shape, having also received a recent thorough clean, and it rides on the correct five-spoke magnesium alloys, which look pristine.

Inside, the Blu Scuro leather presents very well, commensurate with the low mileage. The driver’s seat bolster has recently received a recolouring treatment to bring its appearance back to a very good standard. Blue carpets and floor mats are fitted, all of which are in good condition, and the only real imperfections are some slight bagginess on the passenger airbag cover and some slight stickiness around the centre console gauges and the rare original Ferrari-branded stereo - both common foibles of the 355. There are no electrical faults, and no warning lights present.

The last scheduled maintenance was completed in October 2020 at 21,600 miles, when Ferrari enthusiast Scott Chivers of the ‘Ratarossa’ YouTube channel completed a major service with both cambelts replaced, as well as the hydraulic tensioners and bearings. New drive belts for the alternator, water pump and power steering were also fitted, along with new spark plugs. The oil filter, air filter, engine and gearbox oils, and the brake fluid were also renewed.

The last MOT test was on 16 July 2020 at 21,446 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories or defects. It wears Bridgestone tyres on all four corners, which the vendor states are in good condition with at least 5mm of tread.

Accompanying the car are the handbooks in the tan leather wallet, plus two standard keys and fobs, plus the red fob, the original tool kit, and tyre sealant canister. A ringbinder of paperwork covers its time in both the US and the UK, with the vendor also stating that it has a clear CARFAX report with no damage or insurance claims, and also supporting the mileage. An indoor car cover is also included.

This Ferrari 355 F1 Spider is a well-presented example of an exciting contemporary supercar, which boasts very low mileage. It is reported to drive without fault, and following its recent major service it needs nothing to take out and enjoy immediately. The car has evidently been well-cared for throughout its life, and it is a real treat to rev out its sensational naturally aspirated V8 through the gears on open and winding A- and B-roads - especially with the roof down on sunny days.
