1999 BMW Z3 ROADSTER 2.8

This BMW Z3 Roadster is a smart, low-mileage sports car presented in sound condition. It is powered by the 2.8-litre M52 straight-six producing around 190hp, coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer indicates just 30,525 miles from new.

An original UK model registered in February 1999, the car was with the first keeper until 2001. It was then acquired by the second owner, who kept it for the next 19 years. This Z3 Roadster is now offered by the trade.

The bodywork is in good condition, with sound shut lines and panel gaps throughout. The only note from the seller is that there is some very slight damage to the front bumper, where there are some cracks in the deflectors on each side. Its Boston Green paint presents well, having almost certainly been refreshed in places, with only minor blemishes and a small scratch on the front bumper. It rides on the original five-spoke alloy wheels, which are quite heavily kerbed, so would benefit from refurbishment.

Inside, the black leather is in fair condition, showing some marks and general wear, with the most prominent signs of use being on the driver’s seat base and side bolster. There is also some discolouration on the steering wheel airbag trim. It does have some slight fraying of the stitching around the driver’s bolster, but there are no unsightly rips or tears in the trim, so it could easily be smartened up with some re-connolising. The car is still equipped with the original BMW Business radio and CD player, and has air-conditioning fitted. The ambient air temperature readout is faulty, and the radio appears to need a reset code, but there are no other faults noted by the seller.

Over the last 14 years, the car has been serviced exclusively by the same workshop in West Kensington, which was formerly Deutsche Marques, but changed its name to The Garage London in 2013. The most recent service was carried out in March 2018 at 29,654 miles, when the engine oil and filter were renewed, along with the air filter and brake fluid. Prior to this it was serviced in March 2017 at 29,313 miles, and in March 2016 at 28,105 miles. The seller notes that the car is mechanically sound, but that the battery does need to be replaced.

The most recent MOT test was on 27 February 2019 at 30,307 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with the only advisories being regarding wear to two front suspension arm bushes and anti-roll bar bushes, some cracking in the front tyres, and wear to the front brake discs. The car will require a fresh 12-month certificate before being able to drive legally on the road. Its tyres still have sufficient tread, but would benefit from replacing on the basis of age.

Accompanying the car is the original handbook and stamped service record, along with two keys and the full complement of tools stored under the boot floor.

This BMW Z3 Roadster 2.8 is a low-mileage example finished in a handsome factory colour, which would make a straightforward car for another enthusiast to gradually improve. While it needs a new battery and fresh MOT, it will then be ready to take to the open road as a great value convertible in which to enjoy the summer months.
