This 1999 BMW (E39) M5 is a coveted performance saloon, which has been very well maintained and presents in very good condition. Under the bonnet sits the 4.9-litre S62 V8 engine, coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 72,115 miles from new.
First registered in September 1999, this E39 M5 has been with its current keeper for three years, and has been lightly modified with stainless steel exhaust silencers and a carbon rear diffuser.
The bodywork of this renowned saloon is all in good shape, with flush shut lines, smooth panels and no suggestion of any prior damage. It is finished with Silverstone Metallic paintwork, which features some small stone chips to the front bumper and bonnet, alongside some light scuffs on the rear bumper and a small paint bubble on the offside rear wheel arch. The carbon rear diffuser adds a bespoke touch to this sought-after model, while the car rides on a set of correct 18-inch wheels, which feature just a few light blemishes.
Inside, the Caramel Heritage leather upholstery has been fully re-connolised and now features just some light creasing and bunching on the base panels. The two-tone door cards are in excellent shape, while the gear shift gaiter has been replaced, and the steering wheel has been re-trimmed to a very high standard. The cabin is equipped with heated seats, satellite navigation and air-conditioning, and all of the electrics are believed to work as they should.
In March 2021, the vehicle was fitted with new front control arms, anti-roll bar bushes and exhaust clamps. The last routine servicing was undertaken in February 2021 at 71,975 miles, where independent BMW specialist Darren Wood changed the engine oil, filter and brake fluid. Routine maintenance was undertaken in January 2020, while an Inspection II service was carried out in September 2018, which included an engine, gearbox and differential oil change, alongside the fitment of fresh filters and spark plugs.
Other significant maintenance includes renewal of the engine chain guides, tensioner and gears in April 2017, along with a new fuel pump, air flow meter and lambda sensor. Various suspension components were renewed in September 2016, and it received a new alternator and cam sensor in July that year. In June 2016, at approximately 60,000 miles, this M5 was treated to a full rebuild of the VANOS system along with new seals.
The most recent MOT test was on 12 February 2021 at 71,974 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The Continental tyres are reported to be in good condition, with plenty of tread remaining.
Accompanying the vehicle are the original handbooks and service book, along with a raft of maintenance invoices and the full toolkit.
This BMW (E39) M5 is a superb example of the renowned ‘super saloon’, which features a few tasteful cosmetic upgrades and has excellent service history and benefits from a full VANOS rebuild just 12,000 miles ago. A highly capable all-rounder, this M5 would make a great addition to any collection of modern classics.
