1999 BMW (E39) M5

Powered by the 394bhp 4.9-litre naturally-aspirated S62 V8 engine, and driven through the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential, the E39 M5 has held the admiration of performance cars fans ever since its launch. A true Q-car from a fondly remembered period of BMW design, the E39 was the first M5 with a V8 and the last model with a manual gearbox as standard. This car has covered 95,358 miles from new.

First registered on 1 October 1999, this is an early example of the E39 M5 finished in the subtle hue of Silverstone Metallic with a two-tone Black and Silver leather interior. The car has received facelift upgrades found on later models such as headlights, taillights and satellite navigation unit, which were fitted by BMW. There are five previous owners on the log book, and the car is now offered by the trade.

The paintwork is in excellent condition, with no dents or damage in the panels, and with a smooth and even finish of Silverstone Metallic around the body. As the photographs show, even areas such as the door shuts and fuel filler recess present very well. The correct 18-inch Chrome Shadow ‘Style 65’ alloy wheels with 10 dual spokes complement the paintwork perfectly and are in superb order, shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres.

The vendor describes the interior to be both original and in great shape, with the two-tone Black and Silver leather interior and anthracite headlining presenting very well. There is also a factory-fitted power operated glass sunroof. The cabin equipment includes the BMW Professional media system with satellite navigation, CD changer and cassette player, dual-zone climate control, heated memory function electric seats, and rear parking sensors. The boot area also presents smartly, with no damage or stains in the lining.

This M5 has an extensive service history, the majority of which is from BMW main dealers, with more recent work carried out by renowned specialist Munich Legends. The car has been fitted with a sports exhaust by Haywood and Scott, leaders in hand-made aftermarket systems, which allows the naturally aspirated V8 to really sing.

The most recent maintenance was carried out by Munich Legends at 95,250 miles (just over 100 miles ago) and included new rocker cover gaskets and differential seals as well as a full service. Its last MOT test was on 7 March 2019 at 93,123 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. The car will be sold with a fresh MOT certificate for the new owner, and there is also a carefully collated history file of paperwork as shown in the photo gallery.

This E39 M5 is a very smart example of a lauded M-car, with tasteful upgrades and good service history. Presented in an understated colour combination and with real-world practicality, this car is one of the great super saloons, and is certain to delight its next owner.
