1998 PORSCHE 911 (993) TURBO S

This Porsche 911 Turbo S is a stunning example of the rarest road-legal 993, presented in outstanding condition, with genuine low mileage and impressive history. It is powered by the 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine producing 444bhp, with all-wheel drive via a six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer shows just 24,170 miles from new.

It is understood that there were just 26 examples of the Turbo S built in right-hand drive, with 23 of those being delivered to the UK. Compared to the standard Turbo, it featured larger turbochargers, a modified ECU, additional oil cooler, and an uprated exhaust system. The suspension was stiffer and with a 15mm lower ride height. Even today, its performance is hugely impressive: 0-60mph in just 3.6 seconds, and a top speed of 184mph.

This particular car was supplied to its first owner by H.R. Owen in April 1998. There are five previous registered keepers on the log book, and evidently it has been cherished throughout its life, with regular servicing at Porsche main dealers and recognised specialists. The current owner acquired the car in September 2017, and has enjoyed around 800 miles behind the wheel since then.

Its bodywork is in superb condition, with flush shut lines and consistent panel gaps all around the car. This version of the 993 has incredible road presence, with a bespoke aerodynamic body kit, engine cooling ducts faired into the rear wings, and a substantial rear wing. Brake cooling ducts were also incorporated within the front bumper. Its silver paintwork is in remarkably good order, and there is paint protection film ahead of the rear arches. It is equipped with a power sliding sunroof and rear wiper. The car rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, with ‘Turbo S’ centre caps, which are pristine. They are accented by the correct six-piston yellow brake calipers.

The interior presents in excellent original condition throughout. The blue leather upholstery has visible wear to the driver’s side bolster, and some minor blemishes around the driver’s seat control switches, but is otherwise in very good order. Its cabin is accented by carbon-fibre trims that are unique to the Turbo S, including a dashboard trim strip and instrument surround, door handles and panels, steering wheel inlays, and the handbrake grip and gear knob column. The instrument dials have white fascias, and there are blue seat belts. The boot area is in great shape, with carpeted lining, a ‘Turbo S’ oddment pouch, isolator switch, and the original carbon strut brace.

This car has a comprehensive service history, as shown below and in the stamped book illustrated within the photo gallery. Its last scheduled maintenance was in October 2019 at 24,128 miles, carried out by Northway Porsche in Reading. Prior to this, it was also seen by Northway in October 2018 at 23,965 miles, and by OPC Brooklands in October 2017 at 23,556 miles - the latter including renewal of the brake fluid. In October 2016 at 22,779 miles, it was given a major service at OPC Reading, which included renewal of both turbochargers, the intercooler hoses, and the drive belts.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 25 October 2019 at 24,130 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever. The online MOT history record goes back to 2006, and every result in the last 14 years has been a clean pass with no warnings or alerts, which is further evidence of the car’s remarkable condition. The wheels are shod in Porsche N3-rated Michelin Pilot Sport tyres in size 225/40 ZR18 at the front and 285/30 ZR18 at the rear. They are date-coded to 2017 and remain in superb order.

Accompanying the car is the original book pack, including the driver’s manual and the stamped guarantee and maintenance record. There is also a ring-bound folder of service history and old receipts. The locking wheel nut key, towing eye, warning triangle, and tyre pressure gauges are also present.

This Porsche 993 Turbo S is a remarkably rare sports car, and is among the most coveted of all air-cooled 911s. The 993 was the last hand-built model, and this particular version boasts truly staggering performance. Presented in outstanding condition throughout, this Turbo S would be a magnificent addition to any discerning Porsche collection.
