1998 PLYMOUTH PROWLER

This 1998 Plymouth Prowler is a rare retro cruiser, which has been well maintained and features an attractive custom two-tone purple and silver colour scheme. Under the bonnet sits the 3.5-litre Chrysler V6, producing around 214bhp, coupled with a four-speed Autostick automatic transmission. The odometer currently indicates 20,676 miles from new.

Imported to the UK very early in its life and first registered with the DVLA in June 1999, this Prowler has been in the hands of its current keeper for nearly 13 years. It has been lightly modified with a sports exhaust system, a ‘wonderbar’ brace for stiffened suspension, and a glass wind deflector behind the seats. The car also has an original removable hard top.

The distinctive bodywork of this Prowler with its vintage style ‘outboard’ front wheels all presents very well. The vendor reports that the bonnet, hard top roof and the top half of the boot have been resprayed in silver, while the front and rear bumpers have been painted purple to match the factory colour. The finish is in generally excellent condition, with a very small patch of bubbling as shown in the gallery, and a few minor stone chips and marks on the lower panels. The car rides on an original set of five-spoke 17-inch wheels.

Inside, the black leather upholstery is in excellent condition, and the seats feature the Prowler logo embossed into the backrests. They now present with some light creasing, though the door card inserts and floor mats are both in great shape. Factory-fitted equipment includes air-conditioning and cruise control, and the original stereo is still in place. The low tyre pressure warning light is illuminated, though this has been caused by the fitment of non-run-flat tyres.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in October 2020 at 20,474 miles, where technicians changed the engine oil and filter. Prior to this, similar routine servicing was carried out in September 2018 at 19,517 miles, and in November 2016 at 18,796 miles. The most recent MOT test was on 24 April 2021 at 20,679 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The wheels are wrapped with Michelin tyres, which are all reported to be in good condition. Accompanying the vehicle is the original partially stamped service book and numerous maintenance invoices.

This Plymouth Prowler is an eye-catching American cruiser, which blends classic design cues with a modern powertrain and comfort. With a custom paint finish and a few modifications, this car now boasts improved handling and an enhanced soundtrack, and it also benefits from an original hard top. A rare and characterful roadster; this Prowler would make a fun companion for sunny weekend drives.
