1998 MERCEDES-BENZ (W202) C43 AMG

This W202-series 1998 Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG is a well-maintained and original example of the marque’s flagship C-Class sedan of the era. It is powered by a 4.3-litre V8 capable of producing 306hp, mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, modified by AMG to handle the additional horsepower as well as shifting at higher revs. The odometer shows 180,201 km.

The car was built by Daimler-Benz for the Australian market in April 1998 and was first registered in July 1998. It has been in the care of its current owner for six months.

The factory-applied silver paintwork is in good condition, presenting only some age-related wear in the form of stone chipping and minor imperfections demonstrated in the photographs. The blemishes hardly detract from the overall impressive presentation, and are commensurate with the car’s mileage.

There is a small dent behind the passenger side rear door, but there is no other known damage to any of the other panels, and all are straight and smooth. Its alloys are in good condition, with the driver’s side front wheel featuring a very minor ding.

Inside, the original black leather interior is well-preserved and in very good condition overall. The owner notes that the steering wheel would benefit from reconditioning. There is a small crack in the leather of the interior door handle on the driver’s side, as well as some wear on the centre console leather from the driver climbing in and out. An aftermarket Blaupunkt Toronto 440 multimedia head unit has been fitted to the car.

The C43 was last serviced in October 2020. Work completed included a front wheel alignment, tightening of the pan for transmission oil, topping up the differential oil, and removing and replacing a cracked rear shaft coupling. The centre exhaust section was also cleaned and re-welded. Past services were completed by Ammstar in Fairfield, Victoria, and the car will be sold with a good service history, including various paperwork, books and manuals.

Its last roadworthiness inspection was carried out on 10 October 2020, and no warnings or advisories were given. The car sits on Continental 225/45 R17 tyres, which have only six months of use on them.
