1998 JAGUAR XKR CONVERTIBLE

This Jaguar XKR Convertible is a sleek and stylish open-top cruiser, presented in an attractive factory colour scheme and with sound bodywork. Under its long, sweeping bonnet is the 370bhp 4.0-litre V8, which drives the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission, propelling this refined Jaguar from 0-60mph in just 5.6 seconds. The odometer displays 65,902 miles from new, and the car is offered for sale at No Reserve.

As well as its increased performance, the X100-generation XKR is set apart from the more sedate XK8 by a few sporty exterior touches, including its prominent bonnet louvres, mesh grille, discreet rear spoiler and 18-inch alloy wheels.

First registered in August 1998, this example has been enjoyed by its current owner for the last ten years, and is now offered for sale to another enthusiast.

Today, the car’s bodywork remains very smart, with no evidence of accident damage and smooth shut lines. The vibrant Phoenix Red paintwork also presents well and is believed to be entirely original, however there are some general scratches and blemishes to its surface, including stone chips on the front bumper and bonnet, a small scuff on the passenger-side of the rear bumper and bubbling on the car’s sills beside the wheel arches. The seller also notes that there is some slight damage to the windscreen, however this is outside of the driver’s field of view, and all of the rubber seals appear to be in good order.

The electrically operated black convertible hood presents well, fitting snugly over its frame with no signs of rips, tears or other damage. This XKR rides on its original set of 18-inch ‘Double Five’ alloy wheels, which are in good shape, though there are kerb scratches on the edge of the front passenger-side item, which would benefit from refurbishment in due course.

In the cabin, this XKR is upholstered in smooth Ivory leather with darker Sable accents, punctuated by walnut trim. In general, the interior is in good condition, and while the leather covering the front seats is creased and cracking – and there is a split in the driver’s outer bolster – the rear seats show few signs of wear. All of the other interior trim presents well, including the attractive burr walnut veneers on the dashboard and automatic gear selector surround, which add a touch of British elegance to this refined Jaguar.

Factory-fitted equipment includes air-conditioning and heated front seats, and the car has also been fitted with aftermarket rear parking sensors for trouble-free manoeuvres. The car is still equipped with its Jaguar-branded stereo system; however, the vendor notes that the CD changer and telephone are not functioning, and the heater is also faulty. Otherwise, the interior buttons and switches work as they should.

This sophisticated grand tourer’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in August 2020 at 65,722 miles by Lillywhite Bros. As well as a general service including an oil change, this also included a full strip-down and rebuild of the rear brake callipers, as well as a brake fluid change. Prior to this, in October 2018 at 64,490 miles Lillywhite Bros investigated an overheating issue and coolant leak, and fitted steel seals to the cooling system before replacing the engine oil.

This XKR’s last MOT test was conducted on 6 August 2020 at 65,772 miles. This resulted in a first-time pass, with advisories being issued for a binding nearside front service brake and some corrosion on the rear suspension components’ mounting points and sills, though this was not considered to be excessive. Its front wheels are fitted with Dunlop SP Sport 01 tyres in size 245/45 R18, while the rears are shod in 255/45 ZR18 Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico items, with the seller stating that all four are in good condition.

The car will be accompanied by its original handbooks and manuals, as well as its past service records and original tool kit.

This Jaguar XKR is a stylish convertible 2+2 sports car, which offers impressive performance thanks to its 4.0-litre supercharged V8 while retaining the class and refinement that the marque is known for. Presented in good order and in a pleasing factory colour combination, this Jaguar is ready to prowl the open road and soak up the fast-approaching summer sun at every opportunity.
