1998 DUCATI 916 BIPOSTO

This Ducati 916 Biposto is a stunning Italian superbike in a very rare factory colour, presented in superb low-mileage condition. Its engine is the 114hp 916cc Desmodromic L-twin, which is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 4,814 miles.

With its twin-slit headlights, single-sided swingarm and under-seat exhausts, the 916 was acclaimed in period for being one of the most beautiful bikes ever made - and that reputation endures today. It had the substance to back up the style as well, notching up 120 wins in the World Superbike championship, leading to eight constructors' titles and six riders' titles.

First registered in the UK in December 2000, the bike was evidently kept unregistered initially, as the final 916s were built in 1998. There are four previous keepers on the V5C, and it was acquired by The Brunt Collection in May 2018.

Today, its rare and vibrant yellow finish remains in excellent condition, with no damage to any of the bodywork fairings underneath. The frame is also in great shape, as are the colour-coded three-spoke alloy wheels. Its mud guards and twin exhaust silencers are in equally impressive condition, and there is no damage to any of the mechanical ancillaries. Its black main seat and yellow pillion are in superb order.

This 916 was given a full service, including replacement of the drive belts, before it was acquired to form part of the collection - and since then it has received annual oil changes and routine maintenance in-house. There is also a history file showing services completed from 2006 through to 2008, which included renewal of the clutch basket and plate set, as well as the rear shock absorber.

The last MOT test was on 26 October 2020 at 4,814 miles, which was a clean pass with no defects or advisories. Both wheels are fitted with Dunlop tyres, which appear to be in excellent condition with ample tread.

This Ducati 916 Biposto is a collector-quality example of one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever made, which boasts very low mileage and a lesser-seen factory colour. With a belt replacement service carried out three years ago, and regular running maintenance since then, this is a bike that is ready to enjoy on the road and track, and not just to be appreciated as an automotive work of art.

Please note: as is fairly common with the ‘S’ code in Ducati frame numbers, DVLA has erroneously logged this bike as being ZDM9165014953, when the correct number actually starts ‘ZDM916S’, which is clearly seen on the frame. This will not cause any problems with using the bike, and the next owner could apply to DVLA to update the V5C in the future if they wish.
