1997 PORSCHE 911 (993) CARRERA 4S - 39,314 MILES

This 1997 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S is a stunning example of the final air-cooled 911, benefitting from a great factory specification, and a number of choice modifications. Powered by a 282bhp 3.6-litre, naturally aspirated flat-six coupled to a manual gearbox; the Carrera 4’s all-wheel-drive system gives it impressive traction and even greater year-round usability. This example shows just 39,314 miles on the odometer.

First registered on 1 August 1997, this car Carrera 4S has the wider body from the 911 Turbo of the era, and as a late model year car, it is fitted with the VarioRam engine. There are just two previous keepers on the V5C, and the vendor acquired the car 18 years ago, who is now offering the car for sale due to a change in personal circumstances.

From the factory, a number of desirable options were specified by the first owner. These options included composite-shell sports seats, a power sunroof, stainless steel exhaust tail pipes and sill covers, and aluminium dial surrounds. It was also specified in the special order colour of Forest Green metallic.

The body lines of this C4S look absolutely fantastic in lesser-seen green hue, with all the paintwork believed to be original with the exception of the rear spoiler. This genuine Techart item was added to the car by the current owner, and attached to a genuine spare engine cover. The spoiler shows some minor signs of paint defects towards the rear, but gives the car a more purposeful appearance. The original unmodified engine cover will be included in the sale.

The paintwork is in wonderful condition for its age, and has enjoyed rigorous care and attention throughout the vendor’s ownership. A two-stage machine polish was carried out during February 2021, along with a full Mayvinci MK4 ceramic coating being applied to the bodywork, and Mayvinci Glass View ceramic coating applied to all the windows.

The only minor patch of bubbling on the paintwork is visible below the rear offside window, but otherwise there is only the usual minor stone chips in the more vulnerable areas. Originally delivered with the standard C4S wheels, this car now wears a set of Porsche hollow-spoke ‘Turbo Twist’ wheels, all of which are in immaculate condition and were recently sealed with Gtechniq C5 ceramic coating.

A full underside wash has recently been carried out, with the wheel arch areas being fully decontaminated and cleaned with sealant applied to the plastic trims and high-temperature sealant applied to the brake calipers.

The interior of this 1997 Carrera 4S is in absolutely fantastic condition throughout, with only a few very minor wear marks to the cabin, which are commensurate with the car’s age. The hard-shell sport seats are in excellent order, with only slight wear on the bolsters, and on the seat bases around the electric adjustment controls.

Keen-eyed viewers will note that the original Cashmere leather gear gaiter and cashmere over mats have been replaced by genuine black Porsche items. This is due to the original gear gaiter deteriorating, while the mats have been put in place to protect the original Cashmere items. Both the original gaiter and the mats are included in the sale.

As with the exterior, the maintenance of the interior has been rigorous in its nature, with the cabin recently benefitting from a full valet including synthetic paint sealant being applied to the door shuts. The climate control unit has been repaired by Bergvill during the vendor’s ownership, and everything is reported to be working perfectly.

This is evidently a fastidiously maintained example of the coveted 993 Carrera 4S, and the attention-to-detail extends to not only the engine bay, but the overall maintenance of the car. During its current ownership, the car has received a new battery, new genuine fuel sender and upgraded HID headlights supplied by Bergvill. There has also been a new 6-CD changer fitted in the boot. This example has been fitted with a tracker since 2003, and was upgraded in February 2021 to a Tracker Monitor CAT S7 system, which will require a new subscription if the next owner wishes to continue its coverage.

Under the rear engine cover, the 3.6-litre flat-six engine presents in outstanding visual condition, with the motor and ancillaries all in excellent shape. The last maintenance was carried out during February 2021 by independent Porsche specialist Studio Ten at 39,212 miles. This comprised of a major service, with the oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filters, and all spark plugs being changed.

In addition to the major service, the car also received new front brake pads, discs and heat shields, rear brake pads, discs, dampening discs and heat shields, while the brake system was fully bled and flushed through with new fluid. The handbrake shoes and assembly were cleaned and serviced, the front washer jet pipes were cleaned out and adjusted, and the vehicle benefitted from two new front drop links, two front boot struts, three new windscreen wipers and a full set of brand-new Porsche N-rated Pirelli P Zero tyres.

Prior to this major service, the previous two services were carried out by Porsche of Aberdeen in 2006 and Autofarm in 2004, at 37,320 and 35,360 miles respectively. A full service history summary is available below.

The last MOT took place on 16 February 2021 at Porsche Centre Perth, resulting in a clean pass with no advisories – and a four-wheel alignment was also carried out during the MOT visit. The vehicle comes with the original toolkit and jack, though the original compressor developed a fault and was replaced with an aftermarket item – with the original compressor still present and included in the sale.

In the service history file, there are numerous invoices and other documentation, and the car comes with two keys, and the original red ‘master key’ with security seal intact. The spare wheel is also included, as is the vented spot light unit.

Presenting in remarkable condition and fastidiously maintained, this Porsche 993 Carrera 4S is a stunning modern classic in a rare colour scheme. A true driver’s car and a real head-turner even for Porsche aficionados, this 911 would be a superb addition to any collection, and will no doubt delight its next owner whenever they get behind the wheel.
