KEY FACTS

• A handsome example of the exciting and lesser-seen Gallic hot hatch, presented in smart overall condition and benefitting from a recent mechanical recommissioning.
• Under the bonnet is the rev-happy 2.0-litre 16-valve ‘XU-series’ inline-four, which sends up to 167bhp to the front wheels via a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission.
• A ‘Phase 2’ example, as indicated by its revised front grille, bumper and headlight units, this 306 GTi-6 was first registered in August 1997, and was supplied by Peugeot main dealer Reading Garage as a company car.
• It was then sold on to John Evans Motors, Llanelli in 2001, before being acquired by the seller’s son in mid-2002, and has remained in their family ever since, spending the period from 2016 to July 2021 in dry storage.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• This GTi-6 is finished in the timeless hue of Platinum Silver, with black leather and suede-covered seats and a light grey headlining.
• Equipment includes a premium Clarion radio / cassette player with a CD changer, air conditioning, power windows, electrically adjustable door mirrors and a tilting glass sunroof.
• The car rides on its original set of 15-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, which are in good shape overall but feature various small blemishes, and would benefit from refurbishment in due course.
• Impressively, it is presented in completely standard, unmodified condition.
• This 306 GTi-6 will be accompanied by its correct handbook and stamped service book, as well as its tool kit, three keys and two remote fobs.

CONDITION

• The passenger-side rear wing was struck by another car in 2006; however this was then professionally repaired by a reputable garage, and the only visible bodywork damage today is one small parking dent just above the fuel filler flap on the rear driver’s-side of the car. The Peugeot remains fully HPI clear.
• The Platinum Silver paintwork is in good overall condition, with minor stone chips on the front bumper, grille and bonnet, in line with the car’s age and mileage.
• Inside, the cabin is in good condition for its age. There is fair wear to the leather and suede fabric on the driver’s seat outer bolsters, and it has worn through slightly in a couple of places. There is only minor wear on the front passenger seat, and the rear seats are in very good condition, having evidently seen far less use.
• There are no known mechanical issues and there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard.
• The seller notes that the air conditioning system is not blowing cold and may need to be re-gassed, and the stereo control stalk is damaged – however the seller has always controlled the radio from its dashboard panel.
• The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 13 July 2021 at 95,718 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass, with advisories noting slight deterioration of the nearside front, offside front and nearside rear brake hoses, corrosion on the offside and nearside rear suspension component mounting areas and wear on the rear brake pads.
• It was also noted that the nearside rear tyre was slightly damaged or cracked; however this has since been replaced, and the brake discs were described as being marked, but they have reportedly been swept clean following a brisk 130-mile drive.

SERVICE HISTORY

• This 306 GTi-6 was recommissioned in July 2021 at 95,718 miles, when the cam belt, auxiliary belt and water pump were changed, along with the oil, fuel and air filters, the engine oil and the brake fluid.
• Furthermore, the temperature sensor and one of the ignition coils were replaced, all four tyres were changed and the clutch cable was lubricated and refitted.
• Prior to this, the front wheel bearings, brake servo pipe and driver’s-side steering gaiter were replaced in June 2015 at 95,220 miles, and an oil service was carried out in May 2013 at 93,330 miles.

Renowned as one of the best hot hatches of its time, the Peugeot 306 GTi-6 is an involving and entertaining modern classic.
