1997 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA

This 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sahara is a smart example of a second generation ‘TJ’ model from the first full year of production. Its engine is the 4.0-litre PowerTech straight-six, with four-wheel drive via the five-speed manual transmission. Finished in the original colour scheme of Moss Green with a two-tone tan and green cloth interior, this Wrangler has covered 74,205 miles from new.

Understood to be an original UK right-hand drive example, the clear HPI report notes a first registration date on 5 August 1997. This particular car features wider flared arches, body-coloured sills, and five-spoke alloy wheels. It has been with the current owner for approximately one year.

The seller describes the bodywork as being in very good condition, with no panel damage or visible defects. The paint finish appears to have some swirl marks and very light scratches, but still presents well overall. Its chassis and suspension components are reported to be in good condition, while the exhaust, exterior screws, and some other pieces of trim do show some surface corrosion.

The car has been fitted with a number of off-roading accessories, including protective nudge bars, Hella spot lights, and a Warrior Ninja winch. There is some obvious lacquer and paint damage to the alloy wheels, as well as a few nicks in the rims, but they are structurally sound.

Moving inside, the hard-wearing tan and green cloth interior is reported as being in excellent condition, with no visible tears or damage. There is only some fair wear and small marks commensurate with the age and mileage. The tan-coloured dash appears to in very good order, with a minor scuff to the glovebox. Some of the black interior plastics have faded in places, and there are two screw holes in the driver’s side door covering. Beyond the standard equipment, there is a contemporary Pioneer head unit with digital radio, Bluetooth, USB and aux-in connectivity.

The seller reports the car has a good service history, with a recent engine oil and filter service on file. It has been in use regularly but not excessively, covering some 6,000 miles over the last 10 years.

The most recent MOT test was on 14 January 2020 at 74,201 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with only one advisory about a loose registration plate light. The wheels are fitted with Goodyear Wrangler GS-A off-road tyres that have plenty of tread.

Boasting a combination of retro charm and serious off-road capability, this Jeep Wrangler TJ is a bona fide American icon, presented in good order throughout. It is finished in a great specification, and is reported to start, run, and drive very well – ready for any adventure with the next owner, on- or off-road.
