1997 BENTLEY BROOKLANDS TURBO LPT

KEY FACTS

  • A rare and distinguished example of the stately four-door saloon, in desirable ‘final year’ production specification.
  • As a 1997 model year car, it is equipped with the more powerful 6.75-litre low-pressure turbocharger (LPT) V8 engine, producing up to 300bhp, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
  • Just 1,343 examples of the Brooklands were built, making it as rare as the likes of the Ferrari F40. This is one of just 352 from the final year of production.
  • While this car was damaged and categorised as Category C in 2006, it was subsequently repaired.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • Specified in an elegant and timeless colour combination, the Brooklands oozes class and sophistication. It is finished in Sherwood Green with twin coachlines, combined with a Magnolia leather interior featuring green piping, green carpet over-mats with Magnolia leather edging, offset against the classic walnut dashboard fascia.
  • The car is also fitted with electrically adjustable front seats with four-position memory, an in-car telephone, radio/cassette with CD autochanger, and cruise control.
  • Included in the sale is the original owner’s manual and service book, accompanied by various invoices and a service kit.

CONDITION

  • In 2006, the car was damaged and was recorded as a Category C insurance loss; however, it was subsequently repaired.
  • The Sherwood Green paintwork is in good condition, presenting with a deep and rich shine. There are some minor imperfections, including some stone chips to the front of the car and a little oxidation around the door handles. The undercarriage has been wax sealed.
  • The original Magnolia leather-trimmed cabin presents well, with only some minor wear to the driver’s side door armrest, a few signs of use on the steering wheel, and some minor delamination to the walnut trim. There is also a small tear in the boot floor carpet. The main seat upholstery front and rear remains in superb order.
  • One of the four electric windows is non-functional, and the electric seats function intermittently, which the owner believes is due to a loose connection. There are also some dead pixels within the digital readout panel on the instrument cluster.
  • The most recent MOT test was in August 2021 at 71,156 miles, when the car passed on its first attempt. The advisories were that there was slight seepage from a power steering component, corrosion to the underside structure, and the tester noted some underseal on the chassis and the presence of factory-fitted under-trays.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • It is assumed that the car has been serviced in the last 10 years given its condition, though the last documented service in the accompanying paperwork was in March 2006 at 61,766 miles. This was carried out by Harwoods Bentley, performing an oil change and air filter replacement, plus lubrication of the throttle linkage and gear range selector.
  • Prior to this, there are documented services on file at 59,851 miles and 58,282 miles.
  • A new alternator belt was fitted within the last year.
  • The car has a Bentley main dealer service history up to 61,000 miles.
  • The online MOT history indicates that the car was off the road between 2010 and 2015.

SUMMARY

An imposing luxury car, the Bentley Brooklands is also a sprightly performance saloon, combining the later low-pressure turbo V8 engine with a sumptuously trimmed cabin. There are a few items that the next owner can attend to in due course, but this modern classic would make a smart addition to a collection of prestige vehicles, excelling as an opulent road trip companion or weekend cruiser.
