1996 RANGE ROVER VOGUE 25TH ANNIVERSARY

This Range Rover Classic Vogue 25th Anniversary is an exceptionally rare limited-edition version of the iconic SUV, which is fresh from an extensive service and is presented in smart condition both inside and out. Under the bonnet is the 3.9-litre Rover V8, which produces up to 181bhp and drives all four wheels via a four-speed ZF automatic transmission. The odometer displays 71,938 miles.

Created in 1995 to mark the end of the Range Rover Classic’s production, only 25 of these Anniversary models were built, with this example being number 18 of that small production run. Based on the Vogue SE, this rare limited edition is finished with Oxford Blue metallic paintwork, and is set apart from the standard production models by its chrome bumpers and distinctive badges on its front wings. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in Sandstone leather, and features electrically adjustable and heated front seats, an electric sunroof and power windows.

First registered on 26 January 1996, this car was held in the private collection of renowned Land Rover dealer Sturgess from 1998, and was used regularly until 2015, when it was put into storage and only occasionally brought out for promotional purposes. During this time, it was maintained at a total cost of some £18,500, including replacement of the air suspension system with a standard spring setup in 2013. It was then acquired by its current owner in 2019, and is now offered for sale by the trade on his behalf.

Today, this refined SUV’s bodywork remains in good shape, with no evidence of accident damage and with straight, even panel gaps. Having been fully resprayed in 2014, the Oxford Blue metallic paintwork presents well, though the vendor notes some lacquer peel on both sides of the bonnet, some small blisters on the nearside front of the bonnet, and another above the offside C-pillar. There are also some small scratches around the door handles and below the rear window, which is commensurate with the vehicle’s age and mileage.

Unique to the 25th Anniversary model, the chromed front and rear bumpers are in great shape, and the rest of the exterior trim is in good order – however the ‘V’ is missing from the ‘Range Rover’ badging on the bonnet and the chrome trim strips that run the length of the car are lightly pitted. The car rides on the correct set of 16-inch TWR five-spoke alloy wheels, which are in very good condition overall, with only a few minor blemishes to the edges of both rear wheels.

Stepping inside, the front seats and rear bench are upholstered in smooth Sandstone leather, which presents particularly well, with only some minor wear and creasing to the surface of the driver’s seat, but certainly no rips or tears. Elsewhere, beige plastic trim complements the upholstery well, and while there are some minor scuffs to the bottom of the driver’s door card, this is in keeping with the vehicle’s age and use. Wooden trim on the dashboard and around the automatic transmission lever adds an extra touch of class to this British 4x4.

As a testament to this vehicle’s originality, its factory-fitted Range Rover-branded radio/cassette player is still fitted, and additional interior equipment includes air-conditioning, electrically adjustable heated front seats with memory settings for the driver, an electric sunroof and power windows. All of the interior buttons, switches and electrical items work as they should, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

Frequently serviced and maintained during its 21 years under the care of Sturgess, this Range Rover Classic is reported to be in very good mechanical fettle. Its most recent routine maintenance was carried out in February 2021 at 71,923 miles by L. Whitehead and Sons. A full service, this included replacement of the engine oil, oil filter, air filter, gearbox oil, transfer box oil and the front and rear differential oils, while a new starter motor was also fitted.

Prior to this, the car was recent serviced in December 2015 at 71,435 miles and in March 2015 at 71,403 miles, with Sturgess of Leicester carrying out the work on both occasions. Furthermore, during the vendor’s ownership, the ABS system was also tested by classic Range Rover specialist Bishop’s Heritage.

Its latest MOT test was conducted on 24 February 2021 at 71,923 miles, which resulted in a clean pass after the offside headlamp’s aim was adjusted. All four wheels are fitted with Goodyear Wrangler tyres, which the seller states have a good amount of usable tread remaining, but would benefit from replacement due to their age.

This special edition Range Rover will be accompanied by its original handbook and stamped service book, which covers the period from 1996-2004. The vendor is also providing a selection of bills which detail £18,500 worth of maintenance carried out by Sturgess of Leicester between 1998 and 2015.

Just one of 25 examples produced, this Range Rover Classic Vogue 25th Anniversary is a remarkably rare version of the stylish and sophisticated 4x4.
