1996 PORSCHE 911 (993) TURBO - LHD

This 1996 Porsche 993 Turbo is a very smart example of an iconic model, and one which marks the last series of air-cooled 911s. It is powered by a 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six, which sends 402bhp to all four wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. The car’s odometer currently shows 5,925 miles, though the accurate total from new is currently 66,653 miles (107,268kms), with maintenance documentation to support the mileage.

First registered in January 1996, this 993 has three previous owners, and has been cherished by its fourth and current keeper for the last 16 years. Having only been used sparingly since arriving in the UK in 2007, the car is now offered for sale to another enthusiast.

The bodywork of this 993 is described by the vendor as being in excellent condition, and to the best of their knowledge, has never sustained any damage nor had to undergo any repairs. The car presents with a few chips, notably to the front bumper and nearside door edge, but is generally in very good order having undergone a windows-out respray in 2011. In 2007, the speedometer was replaced at Porsche Muscat. The vehicle rides on the original 18-inch silver-finished ‘Turbo Twist’ alloy wheels, which remain in excellent condition, with just minor blemishes.

Moving to the interior, the seats are finished with grey ruffled leather upholstery, which presents with some minor creasing and discolouration commensurate with the car’s mileage. The dashboard, driver controls and door cards are fitted with a combination of black leather and walnut trim, the latter showing some slight cracks and fading. Overall, the cabin is in very good condition.

An aftermarket Bergvill F/X audio power harness is installed, which comes with a new Continental stereo unit that has USB and Bluetooth connectivity. The original Porsche stereo is available with the car, but currently has an electrical fault. Also fitted is a Bergvill F/X climate control fan, which replaces the CCU fan on the original air-conditioning system. The vendor also reports the hazard light switch is stuck and may need to be replaced.

The last service was undertaken in August 2020 at 66,000 miles, where technicians at D.H. Price Motors on the Isle of Wight changed the engine oil and filter, before re-fitting an original intercooler refurbished by Radtec Cooling, and changing all auxiliary and V-belts. Prior to this, in November 2009 at 61,000 miles, Northway Porsche in Reading fitted two new K-24 turbos and intake pipes, new brake pads, shims and sensors all round, as well as new drive belts. Alongside this, the distributor cap, rotor arm, both outer CV boots and both rear toe arms were replaced.

The most recent MOT test was on 11 June 2019 at an indicated 5,307 miles, which noted a deteriorated offside front CV boot, as well as rear tyres worn down to 3mm. The front tyres still have around 5mm of tread remaining, though the rears would obviously benefit from replacement in the near future.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original owner’s handbook, stamped guarantee and service book, complete with a folder containing numerous receipts for maintenance.

This Porsche 911 Turbo is a great example of the 993 generation, which benefits from a respray in 2011 and a thorough service earlier this year. Since arriving in the UK, it has always been kept in a ‘Carcoon’ storage system indoors when not in use, so has been kept in very good order. For someone looking for a left-hand-drive car to use on the continent, or for an overseas bidder looking to take advantage of exchange rates, this could be the ideal route into 993 Turbo ownership.
