1996 PORSCHE 911 (993) GT2

KEY FACTS

  • An exceptionally rare road-going homologation special, presented in superb condition throughout. Understood to be one of just 172 cars built.
  • It is powered by the matching-numbers 3.6-litre air-cooled and twin-turbocharged flat-six, producing up to 430hp and 432lb-ft of torque, coupled to a six-speed manual transmission, also matching-numbers.
  • The kerb weight is quoted at just shy of 1300kg, meaning the GT2 can sprint from 0-60mph in just 3.9 seconds, and carry on to a top speed of 187mph.
  • Initially delivered to Japan, it spent around 18 years there before being shipped to its single owner in the US, and more recently was imported to the UK and re-registered in July 2020 to the current owner.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This 993 GT2 was ordered by its first owner in Japan, specified from the factory in the rare Arctic Silver Metallic hue. They also chose the hard-shell Sport seats, trimmed in black leatherette with grey inlays, and with anthracite seat backs.
  • Its factory options included air conditioning, radio preparation, electric windows, and the more powerful battery.
  • Since arriving in the UK, its factory Sport seats have been replaced with brand-new Recaro Pole Position bucket seats trimmed in black and grey leather to match the original style, with red shells to match the GT2’s original red seat belts and red fabric door pulls. The original seats are included in the sale.
  • Likewise, while the original four-spoke airbag steering wheel is safely stored and comes with the car, a non-airbag Porsche GT1 steering wheel is currently fitted.
  • It will also come with the tool roll, lightweight jack, air compressor, unused Porsche-branded mechanic’s gloves, warning triangle, space-saver spare wheel, Porsche tyre pressure gauge, and the first aid kit.
  • Accompanying the car is the original driver’s manual and leather pouch, plus a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the Porsche Central Service System record, and extensive paperwork documenting 17 services that cover its time in Japan, the US and the UK. There are also two sets of keys with alarm/immobiliser fobs.

Factory options:

  • Equipment for Japan
  • Higher amperage battery
  • Sport seats - L/R
  • Prepared for radio
  • Airbags - L/R
  • Green graduated tint windscreen
  • Air conditioning

CONDITION

  • There is no known prior bodywork damage. Based on a pre-purchase inspection carried out by Neil Bainbridge of BS Motorsport, the panels are believed to be all original.
  • Its Arctic Silver Metallic paintwork is also thought to be original, and is presented in generally excellent condition. There are a few minor stone chips on the bonnet and front end, and some paint bubbles on the rear wing above the intakes for the intercooler - and the seller understands this is not unusual given the proximity to heat.
  • The full car is covered in paint protection film (PPF).
  • Inside, the Recaro Pole Position seat upholstery is in superb order, with no wear or damage. The dashboard, lightweight door panels, and original carpets are also in great shape, commensurate with the low mileage. Its original Sport seats have some minor creasing in the leatherette, but again remain in excellent overall condition.
  • There are no electrical faults, and all of the switchgear works as it should.
  • The first UK MOT test was on 14 June 2021 at 42,877 km, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories or defects whatsoever.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The last scheduled maintenance was in November 2020 at 42,601 km (26,471 miles). This comprised a major service at Neil Bainbridge / BS Motorsport in Aylesbury, including an engine oil and filter change, renewal of engine gaskets and turbocharger heat shields, a new fuel filter, air filter, pollen filter, and spark plugs; a new distributor cap and rotor arm, timing chain blade, clutch breather pipe and release bearing, plus replacement of the tappets and reset cam timing, and a flat floor geometry check and adjustment.
  • Four new N4-rated Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres were fitted in July 2020, and the strut top joints were replaced by Neil Bainbridge / BS Motorsport in June 2020.
  • In June 2019 at 42,219 km (26,234 miles), Porsche specialist Black Forest Automotive in San Diego carried out a compression check, as well as an oil and filter service, attended to a faulty horn, and also reverted aftermarket silencers back to the original specification.
