1996 CATERHAM SUPER 7 SPRINT

KEY FACTS

  • A lightweight British sports car, with a classic colour scheme and very low mileage.
  • It is powered by the 1.6-litre Ford ‘Kent’ crossflow inline-four, producing around 100bhp, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox.
  • Originally used as a demonstration vehicle for Classic Carriage Company at Mallory Park, it was purchased by its first owner with 142 miles on the clock and first registered in April 1995.
  • It was in single private ownership for 26 years, before being acquired by the vendor earlier this year.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This example was specified with a bare aluminium body, accented by British Racing Green for the rear cycle wings, front flared wings, and nose section.
  • Inside, there is black upholstery, a vinyl-trimmed dashboard with toggle and rocker switches, and a three-spoke Mountney steering wheel.
  • It rides on 13-inch Ally Cat alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin MXT tyres.
  • A Vecta immobiliser was installed in March 1995.
  • It will be accompanied by various maintenance invoices and MOT certificates.

CONDITION

  • The nearside rear wing was replaced in 2003 after the vehicle was reversed into a post at low speed.
  • The aluminium finishes have a few small dints and superficial marks, while the British Racing Green paintwork has some stress cracking around the arches, and some more notable damage to the nose section as shown.
  • There are some scuffs around the interior and light wear on the central tunnel carpet, but the black seat upholstery appears to be in very good shape.
  • No electrical faults have been detected.
  • The most recent MOT test was on 6 July 2021 at 8,955 miles, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The valve clearances were adjusted in July 2021, when the car was also serviced, including fresh engine oil and coolant, and cleaning out the air filters.
  • Prior to this, the oil and filter were changed in August 2012 at Frankton Lane Garage in Rugby.
