1996 BENTLEY TURBO RL

KEY FACTS

  • An opulent and potent modern classic luxury car, which has been maintained to a high standard.
  • Under the bonnet is a 296bhp 6.75-litre turbocharged V8, coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission and driving the rear wheels.
  • The glovebox lid has been signed by George Cohen MBE, a member of the 1966 World Cup-winning England football team, who is a friend of the seller. During the current ownership, the car has been used to take him to occasional Fulham FC games as a guest, hence the current number plate of 66 GRC (not included).

EQUIPMENT AND OPTIONS

  • As a 1996 example, this facelifted Turbo RL features a Zytek fuel injection system, and it is finished in Royal Blue metallic with a Magnolia leather interior, accented by classy wood veneer trim.
  • As is to be expected of any Bentley, the car is particularly well appointed, and comes equipped with rear picnic tables, lambswool carpets, a drinks holder and front and rear heated seats with electric adjustment. It rides on the correct set of 17-inch, seven-spoke alloy wheels.
  • The car will be supplied with documentation of its maintenance over the last eight years, as well as its original bill of sale from Meads of Burnham for just under £130,000, and its build sheets and correct tool kit.
  • While early service history has been mislaid, the seller is working to retrieve this. Phantom Motor Works has carried out most of the recent work, including headlining and a steering rack overhaul, and Broughtons of Surrey has also maintained this vehicle.

CONDITION

  • The bodywork is free of any damage, though the tops of the doors and the wheel arches have previously been repaired to correct minor corrosion. During the recent lockdowns, the doors were removed, stripped back to bare metal and repainted, blending in with all wings – and photographic evidence of this work is available.
  • Coach lines were subsequently hand-painted on, in keeping with Bentley tradition.
  • The whole car was then professionally machine polished and ceramic-coated following the paintwork.
  • Having been partially resprayed over the car’s 25-year history, this Turbo RL’s Royal Blue metallic paintwork is in very good overall condition. Minor blemishes include bubbling on the bottom of the passenger-side front wing, a minor scratch on the boot lid, one touched-in mark on the driver’s side front wing and light stone chips around the car.
  • The cabin is in good order, with some light wear on the driver’s seat’s outer bolster and minor age-related creasing throughout.
  • There are no known electrical or mechanical faults.
  • The most recent MOT test was conducted on 16 February 2021 at 69,344 miles, resulting in a first-time pass with no advisories.
  • The vendor states that it is mechanically sound: starting and running well, engaging and changing gear cleanly.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The last routine maintenance was an oil and filter service, which was carried out in March 2020 at 68,765 miles by TT Engineering, who also recharged the air conditioning system
  • During the seller’s ownership, the radiator level sensor has been replaced and the mineral oil has been topped up. A new battery has also just been fitted.

SUMMARY

A luxurious and refined hand-built cruiser, this Bentley Turbo RL embodies the marque’s focus on creating the best vehicles possible using only the finest materials. While its exterior would benefit from some very minor attention in the future, this long-wheelbase sporting saloon is best enjoyed from inside the cabin, where its passengers can relax and enjoy its truly opulent interior in both style and comfort.
