This 1996 Audi 80 Cabriolet 2.6 is an attractive modern classic cruiser, which is finished in an eye-catching colour scheme and with low mileage from new. Under the bonnet is the 150hp 2.6-litre V6, which drives the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays just 30,101 miles.

Largely based on the B3-generation Audi 80, the simply named Audi Cabriolet was first introduced in 1991, and underwent a number of minor changes until it was phased out in the year 2000. First registered on 20 April 1997, this right-hand drive Cabriolet has spent much of the past 10 years in storage with its previous owner, covering just 390 miles since August 2010. The vehicle remains stored indoors with the current owner as well.

Its bodywork is in very good order, and is not believed to have suffered from any accident damage; displaying smooth, even shut lines. Believed to be entirely original, the bright Laser Red paintwork presents very well overall, and while there are some minor stone chips and marks, this is in line with the car’s age and road use. The black fabric soft top is also fully functional, and while there are some minor signs of wear, it is watertight and free of any rips or tears. 

This Audi Cabriolet’s external trim is also all in good order. The car rides on the correct set of 15-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, which are generally smart, but have kerb scratches on their edges, and would benefit from refurbishment in due course.

On entering the cabin, you are met by a set of vibrantly upholstered seats, which feature patterned red fabric centres and smooth black leather bolsters. While there is some very minor wear on the leather, and small blemishes on the rear seats’ cloth centres, the seats are in good overall condition for their age.

Elsewhere, the interior trim has a smart appearance and is in very good condition other than some wear and tear to the gear lever gaiter. The car has also been fitted with a more modern Sony CD player, however the seller states that the electrically operated aerial does not extend and would benefit from replacement as this affects the radio reception in some areas.

The brake warning light illuminates for around 15 seconds when the car is started, but remains off thereafter, which is understood to be a common foible of Audis of this era. The specialist that has serviced the car has said the same thing, and has noted that the brakes are all fine. Otherwise, all of the car’s buttons, switches and electrical items work without fault, and there are no other warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

This premium convertible’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in June 2020 at 30,053 miles by Audi specialist QST Limited, and included replacement of the cambelt and repair of the fuel sender, as well as an oil and filter change, and the fitment of a new oil pressure switch. A battery-drain fault was also rectified, which related to the convertible top’s electronic control unit. The battery was also been replaced by the current owner in March 2019.

As the car has been driven sparingly and mainly kept in storage for the last 10 years it has been serviced relatively infrequently, and the last stamp in its service book prior to June 2020 dates to April 2006.

Its last MOT test was conducted on 29 May 2020 at 30,053 miles, resulting in a clean, first-time pass. The vendor states that all four of the car’s tyres are in good order, and that the offside rear item was replaced in June 2020.

Accompanying this open-top cruiser are its original handbooks, owner’s manual and service books, plus a number of past MOT test certificates. There is one key included with the car.
