1996 ALVIS VICKERS CVRT STORMER - STARSTREAK MISSILE SYSTEM

KEY FACTS

• A modern British Army vehicle, and the most up-to-date development of the Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked) – or CVR(T) – family of vehicles, with a wider wheelbase and an extra wheel on each side.
• This example still features its Starstreak missile system hardware, which is commonly removed by the Ministry of Defence before release, though of course it is deactivated.
• It is a rare to find in private ownership, as many were purchased back for military use when an extended missile range was developed.
• It is equipped with the Perkins 6.0-litre, six-cylinder turbodiesel engine, producing 250bhp, coupled with the David Brown TN15D transmission with seven forward gears, seven reverse gears, and which allows for 360-degree rotation on the tank’s axis. 
• This CVR(T) Stormer is road legal and can reach a top speed of around 50mph.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• The Stormer is constructed of welded aluminium, rides on torsion bar suspension, weighs around 12 tonnes and has a fuelled range of around 400 miles.
• The external tools and equipment remain original, with the exception of the large crowbar, which has been hand-forged by a blacksmith.
• The spare sprocket bolted to the offside has been specially reconfigured, reducing the overall width by around 6cm.
• Inside, it features three hydraulic seats, designed for a driver, gunner and commander. There is room for a rear bench to be fitted if desired.
• A ‘dashboard pod’ can be re-fitted to the outside of the vehicle when driving in non-combat mode to improve driver visibility. 
• Some of the guidance system electronics have been removed for security purposes.

CONDITION

• This Stormer has been used as a reserve vehicle, and therefore features no significant bodywork damage.
• Its NATO Green paintwork has been professionally refinished with a HMG Raincoat treatment.
• Some marks and stains are visible on the seats, but overall the interior is very presentable.
• The Stormer starts, runs, and drives well, and the current owner (who has even used it for a pizza run) is happy to give driving lessons to the winning bidder. They can also provide recommendations for companies to take the necessary H licence test for tracked vehicles.

SERVICE HISTORY

• Its most recent scheduled maintenance was undertaken at around 240 engine hours, where technicians at TANKS-ALOT changed the engine oil, filter, fanbelts and steering oil.
• The track has required occasional adjustment, along with its hydronic rams. A road wheel has also been changed.
