1995 VOLVO 245

This Volvo 245 is a crisply styled modern classic, which boasts legendary reliability and practicality, and which remains the marque’s best-selling car of all time. Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre inline-four, coupled to a five-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The odometer shows 190,580 km from new.

Understood to have been first registered in May 1995, this Volvo presents as a highly original example, and has evidently been well-cared for throughout its 25 years to date. The current owner - understood to be only the third keeper from new - acquired the car just over two years ago.

Today, its boxy bodywork is in great shape, and is not believed to have suffered from any prior damage. It has flush shut lines and even panel gaps, and there is virtually no sign of any surface corrosion - save for some very small blistering around the bottom of the tailgate. The rest of the car presents very well for its age, and the handsome dark red metallic paint looks smooth and even, with just a light patina. It rides on 14-inch cross-spoke alloy wheels, which are all in good order.

As with the exterior, the interior is assumed to be all original, trimmed in black leather upholstery for the seats, and with ribbed velour fabric for the door cards. There is some wear and surface cracking on the driver’s seat, and some scuffs on the backs of the front seats, but overall the leather is in great shape for the age and mileage. There are also two occasional seats in the rear, making this a 7-seater when required. A modern Alpine stereo head unit with Bluetooth connectivity is the only contemporary addition. All of the switches and buttons - with the exception of the heated seat controls - are working as they should.

The last scheduled maintenance was at around 180,000 km, which includes replacement of all fluids and oils, the drive belts, a new fuel tank and fuel sensor, and some new exhaust components. All four brake discs and pads were also replaced, as well as the complete ignition system. The wheels are fitted with matching Fulda tyres, date-coded to 2018, which have around 60-80% of their tread remaining.

Accompanying the car is an original tool roll, owner’s handbook, and some old invoices and registration paperwork.

This Volvo 245 2.0 is a highly original example of the marque’s capacious and sophisticated 200-series model. Boasting a great specification, and having evidently been well-preserved by previous owners, this should prove to be a robust and dependable modern classic. It could be kept as an occasional load-lugger, or even pressed into service as a smart daily driver.
